Before you light up the grill today for your annual Memorial Day cook-out, please take a moment to honor these Anne Arundel County heroes who have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, including one from Crofton, MD:
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Eric W. Herzberg of Severna Park was killed in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, in October 2006.
Army Staff Sgt. Christopher Swanson of Rose Haven was killed in an ambush in Ambar, Iraq, in July 2006
Army Pvt. Eric Kavanagh of Severna Park was killed by a roadside bomb in Baghdad, Iraq, in September 2006.
Army Sgt. 1st Class James J. Stoddard Jr. of Crofton was killed in Afghanistan when his Humvee went off the road and rolled over on him in October 2005.
I'm sure there have been many others who lived in our local communities while stationed nearby at Fort George G. Meade, Andrews AFB, the Pentagon, and the U.S. Naval Academy.
Memorial Day cookouts are probably just not the same for their families as it is for those of us who never lost someone to war. Perhaps it will help just a little to know that other people DO remember the meaning of Memorial Day and we appreciate YOUR sacrifice as well as that of your son, spouse, sibling, or father.
