I went to a town meeting last night. At this point in our lives, it doesn't matter which town, because between the high taxes in Westchester County and the never ending parade of politicians that disappoint us, it is "any town USA". I got up and spoke at this meeting regarding the ever increasing town tax, school taxes, and county taxes that are quite frankly elevating many a blood pressures. I had never spoke before, but I realize I can't be the silent majority anymore...I can't just complain anymore, I have to try to take some action. I love my Country and I love my home and community. I really feel we can turn the tide around, lower taxes, increase jobs, and secure our future....with a lot of hard work and dedication. I have promised myself and for the hope of all our communities, I will try to be more involved and sacrifice my time and effort to help in whatever way I can to achieve these goals.
I know many families need to make some hard choices to try to ride out this economic downturn so may I remind Westchesterites some of the great and FREE happenings that are coming up...I found so many that I can't possibly mention them all...so I implore you to check out the Westchester County Calendar link that is listed on my website... Here are just a few......
May 27th- Iris Season Tour at Merestead in Mt. Kisco. Free
May 30th- Watch Horsehoe Crabs - Join Sacred Heart Biology Class at Rye Playland. Free
May 30th- Volunteer in the Butterfly Gardens at Lenior Preserve in Yonkers. Free
June 6th- Birdwalk with naturalist Jeanne Waful at Muscoot Farm in Somers. Free
I also found a Mountain Bike Festival, Knot Tying class, Bird Walks, Watercolor Exhibits, Wildflower Walks, Wood Carving class, Forest and Plant Walks, Horseshoe crab study, etc...And guess what...most of these activities are FREE!
Sometimes we have to remind ourselves about all the great things we can find, do and share in Westchester. Bring a friend along and try a new activity that you have never done before...I hope our paths cross along the way!
