Recycling turns materials that would otherwise become waste into valuable resources.

In addition, it generates a host of environmental, financial, and social benefits. Materials like glass, metal, plastics, and paper are collected, separated and sent to facilities that can process them into new materials or products. Make recycling part of your everyday routine and help save our valuable resources for future generations too.

Recycling Tips for Every Day

1. buy plain white paper, tissues and paper towels. Dyed paper pollutes.

2. instead of ammonia-based cleaners use vinegar and water or baking soda and water

3. walk or ride a bike instead of using a car for short trips

4. reuse your grocery bags or buy a canvas bag you can carry your groceries in

5. use mulch and natural ground cover in gardens to contain moisture and conserve water use

6. turn off lights in rooms you are not using

7. repair leaks and drips as soon as they occur. A moderate drip wastes two gallons of water or more per hour

8. buy rechargeable batteries

9. water lawns at night to eliminate evaporation

10. reduce your use of aluminum foil and plastic wraps or avoid them completely by using plastic containers. You can also reuse those glass jars that you would normally recycle.

11. do not put oil or gasoline into the sewer system or on the ground. Take it to a local collection site

12. recycle your aluminum and tin cans, glass, plastic & paper by finding the nearest recycling center.

Need some reasons to recycle? A ton of paper made from 100% wastepaper saves: 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water and 4100 kw of energy. When one ton of glass is recycled, water consumption is reduced by 50%, mining wastes by 79% and air pollutants by 14%.
