Unhealthy Dust…

By

For the last few months, have you noticed how BAD the air quality is around the Phoenix metro area?

My husband has a new passion…photography! I love it because he takes GREAT pictures and I love blogging about his new accomplishments! To answer my previous question about noticing the air quality…we have…it is brown and gross!

Besides the fact that I love to blog about my husband's photos, I also love blogging about the City of Chandler.

Last June, the City of Chandler's Council unanimously approved a number of measures that should help do our part to curb the amount of PM—10 dust in our community. Now you're asking, "What is PM-10 dust?" PM-10 dust is less than 10 microns in diameter and cannot be filtered by the human body's nose and/or throat.

One of the measures that deal with the PM-10 dust is leaf blowers. They are used daily, we live on a green belt and I see them sometimes twice a week and yet sometimes more.

The City of Chandler is enforcing this new ordinance against the use of leaf blowers on surfaces that have not been stabilized. This means that using a leaf blower to corral leaves or debris resting atop barren soil is against the law. Now, if you are using a leaf blower over driveways, lawns, landscape rock or other stabilized surfaces, this is permissible and not against the law.

I thought this was interesting enough to post…this is the air we breathe people! Visit the web-site Clean Air Make More – I thought this web-site was pretty cool, you can check out all of Maricopa county's cities and see what is going one to make clean air, clean! Cheron, I haven't seen any brown dust!!! ;-) It's cool, clear, and wonderful - where I am this week. ;-) Great explanation of how the dust can be a problem. As a child, I actually contacted Valley Fever from living in the Valley of the Sun.

The brown cloud that began to hang over Denver in the 80's was enough to get lots of people coughing, and even more people talking about ways to combat the problem.  Sounds like this is a good place to start!

Teri...   Of course you haven't seen any brown dust, you are in heaven up North and out of the heat! lol  :)  I'm leaving next weekend, can't wait to toot my horn.

My husband is a native, much like yourself, long story short, his father had Valley fever and it took him a very long time to get over.

Fun stuff we breathe...

Cheryl...

I remember the brown cloud of the 80's in Denver, it was not a pretty sight.  I moved in 1991-92, still when I go back to see my Dad I still see a hint of it.

Yuck!!  :) lol
