"My" Baby Robins!

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Realty Center

Ok, so I didn't take this photo...I found it online.  I tried to snap my own baby robins outside on our back patio, where the nest is above an outdoor speaker, but the pix never were light enough....so, I posted this one.  Pretty close to the real thing, although my babies are much larger.  I believe they will take flight any day now.

I have enjoyed watching them grow up! It is amazing how quickly they double in size (in just 3 days! Amazing!).  I have made my hubby turn off that speaker while he is out chipping around with the golf club or grilling out, so they are not disturbed :-)  He hee.  I also had him empty out the pond liner that is below the nest for fear that if they fall out, they will drown.  I have kept the suet, birdseed, fruit, bread crumbs, birdbaths all filled for the mom and dad, and for the babies once they are ready to feed and bathe on their own.

I wake up each morning and use the binoculars to count the 4 little fuzzy heads in the nest.  I watch both mom and dad come to the nest to feed them worms, as well as carry away their waste (sorry, but oh so interesting!).  I will miss them when they are no longer there.  My hubby will too, but will be anxious to clean off the poop from the speaker and turn it back on!

I hope I get another nest there next summer!

Last year we had a family of robins nesting in our yard.  This year we have a family of Swallows making a nest and getting prepared for the new arrivals soon.  Funny to watch. Alberta, Canada...

Sweet.....I noticed a bird in my yard picking up pieces of things for a nest, but haven't figured out where the nest is yet. Seems to be in my Bogenvia bush.

Hello Kristin,

Enjoyed your post!  I also enjoy watching the birds in our yard too!  I love it when the downy woodpeckers (the males) bring the babies to our suet feeders.  Also the bluebirds!  Have not seen any babies yet this year.  I keep looking out for them! Thanks for sharing your cute story!

Rita

Rita, thanks....sounds like we are alike on the bird watching/baby stuff too!  That is neat about the woodpeckers...I see them, but never the babies!  When i was at the animal shelter today, I saw another baby robin's nest!  Now I will have to look after them too!  :-)  Take care

Kristin, Last week my grandson and I found a nest with eggs in a tree in our alfalfa field.  He got real excited.  The other day I was irrigating and saw that they had hatched so we invited him to dinner last night (he's 8).  During the course of visiting I encouraged him to show his mom the "eggs".  They walked out there and lo and behold ... they had hatched!  He was really escited.  Their mouths were open, but their eyes weren't.  Fun evening.
