Go Green with Sustainable Landscaping Techniques
If you are interested in Going Green pulling out the good ole green thumb can be a great 1st start. Natural landscaping, passive solar design, and a natural plant selection are all components of green landscaping.
If you are thinking that applying green principles to landscaping is too difficult, complicated, or not really effective at preserving the environment and an important part of going green think again. Simple practices such as using mulch, limiting the uses of fertilizers, monitoring water uses, managing lawn care, controlling pests, composting waste, and practicing natural landscaping design all has some major positive outcomes including, but not limited to:
- Preserving and protecting air, soil, and water quality
- Conserving natural resources
- Prevents waste
- Provides efficient uses of resources
- Native plants are designed to survive in their environment- they are hardier, require less maintenance, and use less energy.
- Attracts and benefits natural wildlife- i.e. songbirds and butterflies
Spring is here and now is a great time to get started, not only will you be benefiting the earth, but you can also, have fun, soak up some energy from the sun, and get a great workout as well.
