For example, a mere 465 years ago, a Spanish explorer named Ponce de Leon came seeking gold and the Fountain of Youth. Not surprisingly, he found neither, but he was left with enough of an impression to name his discovery "Land of Flowers".
In the early 60's, two brothers named Walt and Roy stopped in to take a look at some property. Shortly thereafter, they bought 27,000 acres, plunked down another $650 million and called it Disney World. Meanwhile, about an hour's drive east, a group of men and women were gathering on the coast that Ponce de Leon had long before, coincidentally, chosen as his landing site. Their goal quite simply was to reach for nothing less than the moon.
Florida itself is a great natural peninsula that pokes out more than 300 miles from the continent, a plush green mat honey combed with more than 10,000 spring-fed lakes, palm trees, fruit groves, and tropical birds. For 1350 miles, it's coastline stretches uninterrupted from the Atlantic to the Gulf of Mexico, and it's southern tip, known as the Keys, gently curves for more than 200 miles to the Southwest. The ocean breeze on the East coast and the gulf breeze on the West coast, mixed with a warm tropical temperature and plenty of Florida sunshine lure a diverse mixture of people whose only similarity might be that they are all absolutely sure Florida is the only place on earth they ever want to live.
Blessed with a benevolent climate, kissed by the sea and its bay, the Tampa Bay area offers one of nature's ideal locations to call home. From its earliest settlement, it has been called one of the healthiest places in the world to live! Man has improved on nature's bounty. The sports enthusiast can watch internationally acclaimed professional athletes competing in football, baseball, soccer, hockey, tennis and golf as well as up-and-coming stars playing on some of the nations best collegiate and prep teams.
