Head 'em up- Mooooooooove 'em out!

By
Real Estate Agent with United Country Ponderosa Realty, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado

Don't ask me about cows -I have a cowboy hat, but I don't know beans about cows. Like most people, I know about milk, beef, leather...and I know that every June the cows move from the low pasture to the high pasture.  I know, after 13 years of commuting to the city, my office thought that a cattle drive was about the best excuse they had ever heard of for being late!

It happened yesterday!

The first cattle drive of the year!

I first saw them on the road near my house

Yesterday  was cool, cloudy and drizzling rain

and they mooooooove sooooooo slowly!

Who says happy cows are from California?

The cows move about 3 miles per hour

It's a long day for the cattle drivers

and of course, I ran into them again on my way to work, I took this through the windshield.

It looks like a lot of work to keep those cows moving, but this kind of a traffic jam just makes me smile.

Hi Gerry! I guess it is a mooooooving thing! Looks like they are going uphill, so it must be time for that high pasture. What a great shot, thanks Gerry! I can't wait to see your others from Yellowstone. Thanks for coming over and for adding the cousins!

Mary,

How cool is that?  I have never been around for a cattle drive.  We have pastures and cows but no cattle drives.  The fields here all stay pretty green.

Hi Jack ! Thank you for stopping by  tonight - nice to see another United Country Agent!

Hi Bob, Thank you how cool is that! The cows are going to Vegas!! Thank you so much!

Hi Ann, These cows get to move every spring and fall...the lower pasture is super green with hay-- I imagine the cows would eat it all -- then there would no hay for winter-- just guessing. (Like I said I don't really know that much about cows) Thanks for stopping Ann, I appreciate that!

Hi Sharon!  Thanks for stopping in and seeing the cattle drive..it is pretty cool (and different) --I hope they are happy cows -- I don't want to meet any "mad" ones LOL!!

Hi Debra, I just had to run out and photograph them, so that I could share it on AR. Went home, took a shower got ready for work, and after an hour they were only about three miles up the road!!  I could have done it all at one time!!  Thanks for coming by, I appreciate it!

Don't we live in a great state!?  I have been slowed/stopped by herded cows and sheep, running antelope, bighorn sheep, elk, deer, coyotes, foxes and one lone mountain lion...does it get any better?

Hi Cheryl! We are pretty fortunate to live here and that's a great assortment of wildlife and farm animals on the road! I love to see wildlife on the road - but fear for their safety - I  always appreciate the other drivers flashing their headlights as a warning that they are there. Thanks for stopping by today - safe travels Cheryl!

I wasn't expecting to see cows in your blog, Mary. Those are great photos. And yes, happy cows are from California, hahahahaha. I can't believe they walk those cows right down the middle of the highway. You can tell I'm a city girl. :)

Hi Mary,

Cows eat and eat and eat....  I think the ones who get to roam are much happier than the ones in the feed lot.

They probably are happier Ann, once at the feedlot the end is probably near. :-(

Mary,

There are cows who live in the feedlot for their whole life.  This would be one of the reasons antibiotics are needed to keep them healthy...;-(
