I was talking to my Dad tonight and he said that I had forgotten a few tool names that should be in the title.  He suggested that I should be using the one my Grandmother used and frequently.  There were twelve kids in the family and all of the boys (7) turned out to be plumbers.  All of the tools they had, according to grandma, had the same name, Dohickey.  I can very clearly remember her yelling at an uncle of mine, or two, "Get that Dohickey off my table".

Well, they never had a dohickey like this.  This is a little more difficult than normal, but I was just thinking how much easier this would have made one of my recent projects.  Hope you all have fun withy it, I would have.

Jack - I don't see many of those around. It looks like a flooring nailer to me.

Jack... Dohickey seems like the right word to me. :).

It looks like a combo tool.  Part sander and part nail gun.

Jack I'm pretty sure that it is a floor nailer. Gotta whack the black dohickey knobby thingy there on top with a rubber faced hammer to make it work.

Mike, they sure make things easier.

Valerie, I'm going to send that idea into someone.  It would be great, nail it and sand it all in one moment. My grandma really knew her tools, everything was a dohickey.

Dan, my problem was the rubber mallet/hammer.  Went out and bought an acrylic one just for that.  Don't think I've used it since.  Just like me though buy a special hammer to use with a rented tool.

It is a nice orange isn't it Cynthia.

I've used that dohicky a time or two. Makes putting down hardwood floors much easier.

Jack and Izzy - I would have to go with an unusual looking staple gun or floor nailer.  But it looks a little different than either of those that I have seen before.

Haven't got a clue, but I know in Texas, Louisiana, and in our office here, they spell it "doohickey." A certain someone is always using it and I'm just naturally supposed to know which doohickey he's talking about. Our house and office are full of doohickeys....

Jack - I'm getting ready to use one of those next week!  I should say, mine is not a power nailer like your picture.  The wife and daughter are away, so I have a house to myself to get stuff done!

James, it makes it so much easier than the first floor I put down.

Myrl, your right about the floor nailer.  It puts the nail in the tongue and doesn't split the wood because of the velocity (compressed air powered).

Jim, I guess I never really looked up how to spell it.  But now that you mention it, looking on the web I found - doohickey - dohickey - doohickie - dohickie.  You know, that might be the first time I've ever written it.

Jay, It's good your going to be there alone.  The things sound a little like a cannon.  Drove Izzy nuts, he hid under the end table, which is a great accomplishment for him.
