As a resident of Fort Myers Beach since 1999, we have quite a few reasons to show off our island.The beaches of course, rated as one of the safest in Florida and more, its location along the Gulf of Mexico, it overall tropical charms with its mix of cottages and Fort Myers Beach waterfront homes, the friendly residents, its preserves...but it is its school system that really stands out. 
In fact many couples with kids under the 5th grade do relocate to Fort Myers Beach because Fort Myers Elementary School and middle school is well known to be one of the best schools in South West Florida.

Fort Myers Beach Elementary School is "way ahead" of the State's average and is considered an A rated school. One of the things which is terrific for families is that if need be students can stay in the after care program until5p.m for a very very low fee. That is what I call: " a modern school" which realizes that parents do often work and it is hard for them to juggle between their profession and their responsabilities as a parent.
They even have a computer Lab and a media center. Not to shabby for a small community!

For the older kids ther are quite a few strong high schools in South Fort Myers as Cypress Lakes High School, which is a A rated school: http://cyh.leeschools.net/pages/home.htm which has also a very strong reputation.
