Waiting for Inspiration To Hit - Need URL Name Help!

By
Real Estate Agent with Allen Tate Company

I feel naked without a website so computer addict that I am my next logical step in my Real Estate progression is my own website. Our agency uses VLSHomes, but you get your own URL. That is where I am having my problem

I cannot come up with a catchy name that I like.

I work on LI (Long Island)  so thought of LIHomesbydonna or homesbydonna. They are on

ly OK - not quite what I want.

People have suggested simple like donnagalinsky.com - to me that is BORING.

This URL will be on everything I print so I want it to be catchy and easy to remember.

I would love to hear some suggestions from you creative thinkers out there.

Thanks so much!

You're going to have a tough time finding something available.  Sometimes I spend hours trying to find good, short names.  It's amazing how many are already taken. Good luck.

I'd snag your personal name while it's still available.

I'd avoid hyphens.

Like Tim says, I would snag your name while it's still available, even if you don't use it. People can type it in and redirect to whatever url name you end up choosing.

I myself couldn't think of anything catchy for my website's domain name so I simply used: www.ricardobueno.com People like my last name. I suppose I could've chosen something catchier, but it's working out for now.

Donna, yes buy a URL that is your name but don't use that URL as your main website URL.  Point it to your main one.

You will need to figure out who you are your marketing to, i.e. first time home buyers; second home buyers, etc.  Be as specific as you can.  Then and only then can you determine your URL.  There's a lot of thought that needs to go into it.

For example,  years ago I thought I needed to use my name, so I combined my name with something I thought would work.  I came up with www.SarasotaisConwayCountry.com  Now I'm re-thinking the whole thing.  I'm working toward targeting the younger, more upscale retiree so I've purchased a targeted URL:  www.Retire2SunnySarasota.com  Currently, I'm pointing it to the original one, but eventually It will have it's own website.

My plan is to build a business that I can SELL eventually when I want to retire and if its got my name in it, who'll want it?

I hope this makes sense to you

If you are appealing to buyers, then make the name what buyers are looking for - home search -  www.SearchLongIslandHomes.com

I just went through the same dilemma. Here are a few of my thoughts...

  • You want people to identify with your name.  Use your 'name' domain as your primary email.
  • You want the search engines to hit on your domain.  Having location and key attributes in your name help.
  • Agree that short is important...but more important is something that people will remember!
  • I decided that it was good to Call to ACTION --- i.e. BuyHomeInMaui.com
  • The beauty is that you can grab several for a very low cost and redirect as you please.

The best urls have keywords in them. The goal is for people to find you on the internet, not for them to type your url. Long-Island-Home-Sales.com is available as of 8:25 EST and would look good to the search engines.

Buy the url first and then pick a host. That way you will be sure to own the url. Godaddy has them pretty cheap and then you can point it to your host. It is easy.

Hello,

I have worked with SAINTify.com to build and host my website at: rondamarchant.com.

They are really reasonable in pricing per month and I have more functionality!  I was paying $80 per month and they have lowered that to where I regain the setup fee within the first year.

I even get some ad revenue back as well!

I already had my URL for several years but I agree, make it short and related to you.

Thanks,

Ronda Marchant

Right now I am up to 23 names I own. You want to keep it simple yet something everyone can remember easily. Not everyone will remember donnagalinsky.com but many would remember NYHomes4Sale.com (I think this is available....By! gotta go to godaddy to buy it!

Thanks Robert I will look atthat.

I have bought about 10 different names, but I really like this one: www.findyourhomeLI.com

Then I have some other town specific ones that I was tld the search engines might pick up better.

Now all I need to do is get my website together.

Donna, have multiple web sites, perhaps your name, a catchy URL which forwards back to that one, and a non branded site or two. Definitely have your name, because YOU are your brand.

Start by branding yourself with your own name as the website.  Expand off from there to focus on your various niches.  Just my two cents worth!
