Good Afternoon Everyone!!!  : )


I was discussing marketing with one of my best RE agents about a month ago.  She was asking me what I thought about advertising in a local publication.  She has been reading this newspaper for the last few months and thought it would be a good place to spend some of her ad dollars.  She asked me if I had ever read this paper and I told her honestly, that I have not, but is sounds like she has already made up her mind to advertise with this publication.

I asked her if she had a copy of the paper and she did.  As I looked through the paper I saw a number of local businesses advertising.  I suggested that she call some of the advertisers that are currently placing ads with the paper and see what kind of results they are having.  I told her I would even help her make some of the calls, while she was here with me. 

 We called the first company and told them who we were and that we were considering buying some ad space and wanted to see if other companies were having a good response from this paper.  The receptionist started telling us how her and her husband were just talking about buying a house and were planning to look at homes the following weekend.  My agent was ecstatic, not to mention surprised, and scheduled to meet with this couple that evening.  We were eventually transferred to the marketing person, who gave us some great info on ad pricing as well as some other newspapers they are having good results advertising with.  After we spoke with the marketing person for that company we called 15 more companies... now that there was a chance we could generate some leads from this effort.  In all we spend 1 1/2 hours talking to people about this publication and she gathered a lot of ideas on advertising as well as 2 buyers.

This all goes back to the fact that we never know who we might be talking to.  Everyone we speak to could be buyers or sellers.  We were calling these companies in order to validate spending money on advertising.  Our goal was to spend ad dollars as wisely as possible.  Our reward was talking to some people at just the right time how want the American dream.  

In the end, she started placing ads in that publication and she grew her business.
