A Small Step

After receiving an e-mail alert I did something I've never done before.  I made a call, to the governor's office.

There is a bill waiting for Governor Rell's signature, SB 499 to be exact.  It is a small but important step in the right direction in discouraging the sale of puppy mill dogs.  If you live in CT or know someone who does please visit and share this link:  https://secure2.convio.net/aspca/site/Advocacy?alertId=2586&pg=makeACall

After reading about the bill I made the call.  My call went right through to an actual person!  How cool is that?!  I mean, the governor's office must be super busy but they had time for me, for the issue at hand.

It isn't going to stop puppy mills but will help increase awareness about where the puppies come from.  If a 'kennel' IS indeed licensed by the USDA that's a red flag right there.  Then it is up to the consumer to make a choice to support the puppy mill or not.  Eventually retail stores will get the idea, at least I'm hoping it'll work out that way.

I absolutely agree that we need to do something to stop the horrible conditions these poor puppies live in at the puppy mills

Small steps lead to progress.  Hopefully thru awareness we can stop puppy mills.  There are so many dogs in shelters and thru various programs like labs4rescue that are waiting for good homes...

By making folks aware of the problem is the first step. Keeping it in the public eye.

Jennifer, in a perfect world we would expect retail stores to get the idea, but I've been entrenched in this issue since 1983, and nothing has interferred with the corporate bottomline.  It will take the public to stop buying before they get the picture.  Glad your state has pending legislation.  Here in FL its every animal for itself.

Jennifer, thank you so much for sharing this info. I live in CT and LOVE dogs and cannot stand puppy mills. I am going to call tomorrow. It's the little things that we can do that will make a difference.
