I received a call from a first time buyer this morning and her comments just seemed so odd.
"I've lived in the same apartment for 9 years because I don't know where to start to buy..."
"I'm too scared because I don't know the process of loans, houses, mortgage payments etc..."
"I know I should buy but I don't know how to fix anything, so I'll just keep renting..."
I was a bit amazed at this because I'm not the type of person that will shrink into the corner and accept a lack of knowledge. If I don't know about a topic, I'll ask experts questions or start to do research. However, not all of us are that type of personality. Some folks need a little hand holding, reassurance and education. A "Helper"!
So...if you're a first time home buyer or even a first time home seller(that's a whole different topic!), call a few Realtors around town and interview them. Find out if there is a home buyers seminar out there you can attend.
Step #1 to looking for a home...GET PRE-Approved. You need to know what amount you have to shop with. Ask that lender if they have a Realtor referral for you. That's another way to work with an expert.
Good luck, it's really not a scary process and there are some great deals on foreclosures, distressed homes and new construction in the Raleigh, Durham, Wake County, Greater Triangle area right now...lots of choices!
