If you use Twitter...take a look a this!!

Okay...I'm a newbie when it comes to Twitter. I guess it took me a while to understand what the whole sensation was all about...and I'm not sure I even understand it now!! LOL!

(It strikes me as a bit frivolous, to be honest.)

I'm not sure I care to know that Steve is making toast, or that Julie is hiring a babysitter, or that I'm being followed by some guy trying to sell me something over and over again. Seems there's more inane pitches being posted all day long versus anything of real substance. I guess that's what you get for 140 characters, huh?

But I'll hang in there....for a while.

In any event, I didn't know you could add design stuff until I started experimenting a little. I saw someone else's page and it had a nice graphic in the top left corner. So I thought....Hmmm, I wonder how far down you can take that graphic...and started playing around with showing examples of our work.

It's a bit busy...and I need to go in and tidy things up, but here's a screenshot of my home page.

That whole graphics bar on the left could be used for a myriad of things. I haven't created any samples yet, but my head started spinning with ideas for Realtors. Incorporate their branding into that area, maybe even show recent listings there??

Kinda interesting. I'll keep you posted on ideas...but I'd love to hear yours!!

Dave

Very cool - I didn't know you could do that much.  I've added different photos that tile across the whole page but I like what you found.

Yes, that's very busy. I can't remember the last time I actually went to twitter.com as I use Tweet Deck to keep all the tweets organized.

I do think the non standard twitter site looks better. I would think you could make a few bucks providing this service to interested Realtors.

Thanks for this tip.   I think Twitter is a very interesting thing, although am just new at it, and figuring out what to do about it.     Will try to make my page more "visible" -- I like yours!

Russell,

Again, I loved finding out that you were eating a taco!! LOL!! We can kinda twitter each other right here on ActiveRain!

It's not really a graphics bar...it's simply changing the background image over there....but without tiling the image. I threw somethig together quickly to see how far down the page it went...and it worked great. The next thing I want to try...is creating a HUGE graphic to see if I can use both the left AND right-hand side of the screen. I'm pretty sure I can....it'll just have to load quickly. I'll post any changes I make here, ok?

Margaret,

I'm so new to Twitter....that I wasn't sure what kind of customization could be done. I hate status-quo, so I thought it would be fun to try and spice things up a bit. I may have gotten carried away a little, but that graphic was just a test to see if it would work. I should have someone here let me play with their Twitter page a little to see what we can come up with?? FREE if we can use it as an example, and/or if you blog about it!! I wouldn't be able to do a ton of them...but maybe four or five??

Hannah,

I went to your blog and watched th video. Seems interesting....I may have to give it a try!! Thanks for providing the link (we were both thinking about Twitter at almost exactly the same time! GMTA!)

Donna,

I know. Toooooo busy, but again it was just a test. I'll clean it up and see if I can spread things out to the right and left of the main screen. Keep watching!

Bill,

Hmmm....a man after my own heart...er...uh...well, you know what I mean!! You wanna try it?? Maybe let me do one for ya for free so we can see what it looks like?? If it looks good, I think I might take advantage of Twitter's popularity...I mean, we already do custom blog headers as seen in my profile. Let me know, ok??

Li (Sea to Sky),

I'm new too. Still having second thoughts about the whole thing...but what the heck. I'll try it for a couple months...and see what happens.

Thank you all for commenting!

Dave, I see different people on twitter that seem to have cool backgrounds.  I have only discovered the canned ones you can select and modify within the twitter options.  Still haven't figured out how people create totally custom pages.  Guess that'll come with time.  Yours is looking good.  Good luck with it!

I avoided Twitter and then I totally loved it and blogged about it for a while - now I think I am in balance - appreciate it but not consumed by it.  I have considered creating a twitter background but just us pictures right now and change them seasonally along with color scheme.  I find many of them too busy and stressful to look at sometimes - but there are some I love that tempts me - still considering. . .

Twitter is a bit strangeto me. I don't have time to let the world know what i'm eating when I have no idea what's for dinner! Layout looks good and I'll work on my bland look. Thanks for sharing

Oh my gosh! I guess I let this post slip through the cracks a bit as I hadn't come back to respond to some of the comments. I soooo apologize for that!!

Chanda,

The custom pages are simply "backgrounds" that have been created in a graphics program. It's just one simple graphic, but as you've probably seen, some are great...and others....well, not so great. You can then change the colors of several primary components and menus to match the new look (sort of like doing a custom blog header here on AR with matching color schemes.) Thanks for your compliment on ours!

Cathy,

LOL!! I totally agree. I still do not "tweet" very often. Perhaps I should more? But fundamentally there's a part of me that just can't totally get immersed in a platform that only gives me 140 characters to say what I want to say. Most who know me....would attest to the fact that I have a hard time limiting myself to 10,000 characters!! LOL! Your seasonal background idea sounds verrrrry cool! Holidays especially perhaps?? Hmmm....maybe I should create some templates??

Kevin,

Great background!! You've done a terrific job on your branding! I left a comment on that post regarding the resolution.

Monique,

By the way...what IS for dinner???
