Laptop Vs. Netbook

By

So I have recently been contemplating getting a Netbook. Right now I am carrying a rather large, fairly new laptop, back and forth to the office everyday. Yes, I work at my office every day except Saturday & Sunday. I am not comfortable leaving my laptop at the office or in my car, so I cart it from home, to the car, to the office & back everyday. Well, thats getting old.

I also do a lot of traveling from Spring till Fall. I would like to be able to bring a computer with me, but by the end of the week I am so tired of carrying my laptop, I just leave it at home.

If I did get the Netbook, I would be able to leave my laptop at home, and use my Netbook to go to and from work and on my weekend trips. I wouldnt use it for downloading my music to my ipod, or storing my pictures, I would leave that to my laptop at home. It would simply be for work and for trips. Things of that sort.

So my question to everyone is... What do you think about the Netbooks? Do you think they are worth the $250-$400 bucks for me to invest in one? Or should I just stick it out and bring my laptop with me until I absolutely need a new one?

I'm not really "up" on the technology side of the Netbook, but I have a friend who is (he just got a degree in all this stuff) so I would bring him along to help me pick a good one out that is going to do what I need it to do. . . But before I start asking him a million questions, I figured I would ask my AR friends and see what the think about the new Netbook Mania!!!!

Thanks for all your help!!!!!

Kayla - I would say it would be much easier to carry a netbook around. The keyboard is a little small so, I would get a normal size keyboard and leave that at the office. Also, I would pay more for one that has longer battery life.

The netbook would probably be your best bet if you think your laptop is to large/

Some small laptops can be the same size as a Netbook and I would think they would be more powerful so I would lean to a smaller laptop Kayla.

Kalya  Also look at the TabletPC, the big difference is the touch screen.  With today's Internet you can be sitting at Starbuck or and hotspot  and complete a complete deal without running back to the office to scan or fax the deal to all parties involved. What the TabletPC offers is the ability to sign your contract right on the screen of the PC, you can also so write in changes or check boxes.  When you are finished you can even send the completed documents to all the parties involved via email using WIFI or a local Hotspot. So instead of running back to the office to get the paper moving, you can stay and enjoy another cup of coffee or head off to your next appointment.

Gary- thats a good idea too.

Chuck- I have a tablet PC already. I am looking for something that is more everyday use though, but when I know I am meeting with clients that need to sign stuff I will hawl my Tablet. The Netbook would more so be for like blogging, emails, social networking. More everyday stuff.

Of course, recent trends have considerably diminished the difference between these 2 gadgets, but anyway there are still points to consider before purchasing one or another. Below I've tried to list them all: http://www.myhowtoos.com/en/how-to-choose/87-how-to-choose-between-netbook-vs-laptop

Kayla, I have the same question. I was thinking a netbook would be easy to travel with. There's just too many decisions!

Dawood, thank you for all the information!

Jen: I know, I am one of those shoppers who is afraid to buy because I am so scared that once I buy it, I am going to regret it and go with the other choice! So I weigh my options and think about it for MONTHS! LOL!

Hi Kayla - What did you end up doing? I found your blog in a "Search" because I'm contemplating this topic too.  Seems like it's truly defining what & how we'll be using the device.
