What Questions Do you have about Twitter?

This is less of a blog, than a survey.  I am beginning to teach classes on Twitter.  My experience with this application has been very positive. However, I know many of you have "hurdles" to overcome, including "just not getting it," "seems self effacing," "who cares what I eat for dinner?" And many more....

What questions/concerns do you have that if answered would help you overcome these obstacles?  Also if you have suggestions or answers, feel free to elaborate.

Consider this post an "interaction" on Twitter. I would love to hear what you think.....

What on earth does one do with it?? I signed up, now what?? Is it a computer thing or a text thing? I am really of a different generation. I am happy I have figured our Facebook and Blogging....this twitter thing has me very confused...I am sure this will be your most basic question...I sure hope so. Could there be anyone who is as confused as I am?????

Happy Thursday!!

Hi Lori,

Nice name.  One of the best resources for new users is this Twitter Search page!

My first suggestion to new-bee's (ok, pun intended...) is to search for people in your geographical area.  Then search for people who have "like" interests.  For example:  Dogs, Wine, Soccer, Country Music, etc...

Then "bee" (ok getting carried away but I just roll with it) yourself....  Do NOT post JUST about work and listings, etc. It's ok to Tweet listings & such sometimes, but definitely NOT all the time. It is "Social" Media.

That should give you a good start. But feel free to find me on Twitter @BeeRealty and I will be happy to help you along.  It does take a bit, but it is well worth the effort in the long run.

Let me know if this helps you... or anyone else out there. I know I will get a lot of this and you aren't alone!

Oh & David, you are right, applications like TweetDeck, Seesmic, Tweetie, etc. really help you organize your columns and filter what you want to really pay attention too.  But it takes a bit for MOST users just beginning to get that.  Once you get the hang of that though, you never turn back to the standard application.  :-)

I think one thing so many miss about Twitter is that it is not something you use to sell your product or expertise.  It is something you use to engage others by using soft sell techniques.

So true Jeremy.  I can't even remember how long it was we talked before I even knew who you worked for.  LOL.  But it was about developing the relationship.  The biz will come later.... right?  RIGHT?  LOL.  JUZ KIDDIN!   ;-)

Also I suggest as a starter, use Twitter as an OPPORTUNITY to HELP people.  Look for those asking questions about restaurants, directions, cutting thru your airport, and not JUST real estate stuff.  The peeps always appreciate a helpful answer, and in return will help you too!

Lori - the hardest thing for me at first was the slooowwwww refresh rate on the originall Twitter interface.  Took a while before I realized if I wanted to keep up I had to hit F5.  But after downloading and  using Tweetdeck ... well, all that went away.

I haven't used any of tweetdeck or any of the applications.  I'm still learning but love it.  I may even have an addiciton.

One important thing is for ppl to put there bio info in.  I don't automatically follow any who follows me.  I look at there bio and a couple of there replys before I decide to follow.

Many have told me they can't do there bio bc not enough character spaces.  Personally I think it is a mistake.

I hope your classes go good for you.  : )

I'm slow moving with Twitter, but have a feeling I'll be running the circuit with it eventually. Thanks for sharing.
