JOHN: It has been documented as history that "Rhode Islanders, used to governing their own affairs, had staged earlier demonstrations before Gaspee, against British efforts to collect duties on imports and exports to defray the cost of running the colonies

GAIL: The Gaspee Day committee creates a replica of the GASPEE so they can use it for the ending of the Gaspee Days Festivities, this is a symbolic burning of the ship that sparked the American Revolution. The bottom is made of metal so they can use it each years and the sails and posts are built yearly and are the only part that burns.

KIM: This is no joke. This is an annual event each June, in Pawtuxet, RI  designed to commemorate the burning of the hated British revenue schooner, HMS Gaspee, who chased the Patriot's sloop, Hannah, on June 9, 1772. This has become known as America's "First Blow for Freedom". This re-enactment is in its 44th year.

MICHAEL: Perhaps the early colonists had the right idea. "Down with the outrageous taxes."

CARON: This vessel is created as a replica of the original Gaspee created each year by the Gaspee Committee members. This replica is used each year in celebration to commemorate the burning of the schooner Gaspee. Gaspee Days Festivities, include this symbolic burning of the ship that sparked
the American Revolution.

DEBI: This was the 44th year commemorating this historial event.The Gaspee Day events also include a parade and military maneuvers and uniform fashion show of colonist and redcoats uniforms and clothes, Great 3 days.

DIEGO: They have been doing this for 44 years and would you believe this was my first experience in being there.

STEVE: Definitely this is a annual regional re-reenactment event, however it does have a historical significance to the start of the American Revolution. It was become known as AMERICA's "First blow for freedom"

TERRY: Having been an educator for a number of years my favorite subject was teaching historical events as well  current. Still today I seek to find and research special people and places and events.
