Pricing Our Services - How Low Can We Go?

By
Home Stager with Redesigned Spaces - Northern Virginia

Many of us live in areas where home staging is a foreign word, others live in areas where there is a bit more competition and some of us just want to get our name out there and start growing our business.  So how do we price our services?  Do we price our services middle of the road for the area we are working in or do we low ball our price in the hopes we will be the stager chosen for the job and the Realtor and home seller will be wowed by our capabilities, then we can raise our prices?

I certainly do not think a newbie would be able to charge top dollar but I am also wondering if charging a low price is the best for the industry as there is always going to be a new stager popping up and possibly charging much less.  All my marketing classes said do not compete on price but service but let's face it people usually want a deal and some want it free at that.  By charging rock bottom prices are we shooting ourselves in the foot and creating an expectant price point?

As tempting as it is to charge less to start my business I am opting for more of a middle of the road approach.  Am I wrong or is there even a right answer?

Each state is different and here in Texas where it is cheaper to live, my prices seem lower than most.  But I am middle of the road here.  I find that no matter what I charge, everyone has an answer as to why I charge that.  I've heard...because she's good, because she's cheap, because she's busy, etc.  I don't think it matters what you charge if your customer service is great and I look forward to reading what everyone else says.  Great post!  Good luck!
