I'm Disappointed with Active Rain

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty World Wichita

Expletive2 reason really.  I've not logged in much for the last 8 months.  Office growing, had a fire, website stuff, etc.  Got on yesterday after a friend of mine forwarded a VERY offending blog post (Said she was selfish, wanted to keep all the money for herself, just look at her picture).

What a change.  One of my OLD posts from 3 years ago had some very strange comments, and a link to a site that sold hebal products and talked about sizing...

Worse, someone I've LONG admired for SEO intelligence had changed their blog.  This person could dispense SEO advice that bordered on a GURU of SEO.  Mature, helpfull, insightful, etc.  I so admired this blog, it was one of the first places I went.

Now, I'M NO PRUDE.  7 years in the Army (25 years ago....) and I can cuss like a sailor.  CAN is the operative word.  I don't cuss at my brokerage, and NEVER in front of clients.  I think we Realtors should try very hard to project to the public something a little more professional - a little more respectful.

SO - Went to my SEO guru's blog, and there was a video in it.  I played the video to see what it was about.  The video is a happy birthday, and the wish is "Happy F****** Birthday".  WOW.  I was floored.  I lost respect.

I suppose I shouldn't.  I'm getting up there in years (53).  I go to movies, I have kids.  Geez, I LOVE George Carlin and how words are just words.  Yep, I'm a christian.  Republican, but a little on the liberal side.  And I was shocked.

Shocked to find AR wasn't about SEO and helping Realtors as much.  Shocked that spammers were running through our blogs.  Shocked to think someone would disagree with a post, and attack someones looks over the content.

I guess I'm Naive.  Maybe I just haven't changed with the masses at AR.  I'll keep coming for now, but this isn't the AR I knew last fall....

Hi Greg,

Sorry to hear about what you came back to. But I have to admit, I too have seen some pretty childish and immature conduct on here. Mostly name-calling and verbal attacks on people.Still, it's very inappropriate in my opinion.

However, I still see a lot of very knowledgeable and helpful people here as well. People that are willing to share their time, expertise, and experiences. And that's what makes it worthwhile for me. Hopefully, you will find some of those people as well.

Greg -Don't leave. Trust me I understand what you mean-TRUST ME. But despite of the name callings and other foolishness going on,Acrive Rain is still the place to be. Many real estate agents are still sharing great brilliant knowledge and giving great advice-THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE. Good to have you back sir. Great post.

Remember  that Jackson 5 song... 'One bad apple

don't spoil the whole bunch girl.
(Ooh. Give me one more try before you give up on love.)' Can't you just hear Michael hitting that really high note?

ActiveRain is still the same great place...just ignore the bad apples.

I have already had a run in with "The In People on ActiveRain" about some blogs
that were featured in the network at large that had swearing in the subject and
in the blogs themselves.....

It seems ActiveRain HAS changed a LOT in the past several months.....

I am staying in also...I am choosing not to associate with those types of people....

The one(s) who featured such a post in the first place... AND the ones who
supported the swearing...

Thanks for posting this....

=-)

Greg...

I'm not easily offended but when I don't like what I'm reading I just scroll on. There's so many Members nowadays we are all bound to find something of value in spite of the fact we have to scroll through fifty pages to get to it :)

TLW...ROAR!

A voice of reason from the past.  Glad you're still here.

The problem is NOT that I can't or won't scroll throught the 50 pages, it's finding the time form 50 pages.  6 months ago, I could find LOT of content in a matter of minutes.  Time is more precious.  BUT, I'll still keep looking....

Greg, I hope your taking all the above comments to heart, and don't change your way of thinking to others here that try and make A.R. look "different" as we have not changed along with the groups that have chosen to do their thing.  Hang in there, when things change, make change yourself and keep on going, don't "fall out."

It is easy for some to forget this is a business forum and not an "adult social chat board". Don't let them chase you off. We need more like you here.

Hi Greg  A big thank you from me.  I have blogged about this time and time again...and I will continue to rub salt in the wound of the ones who continue to be rude, crude , disrespectful and un-professional  Every one that has commented I agree with.  You have to hang on.  I am sure if more people scream someone will pay attention and listen.

There are such talented, amazing people here on the rain ..you have to weed out the weeds and keep in touch with the ones that have an impact on you.  Thanks again .....what you blog is important and valuable.  AR  and the members can't afford to loose good bloggers so hang in there.

Thank you, Greg.  I have seen some things here, some of them featured, that would make a sailor blush and one that I recall was written by a member of the ActiveRain staff.  I just move on when I see this but since you opened the door on the subject, I decided to comment and say thanks.

Thanks for the post. I agree.  I expect professionalism from other real estate agents, especially in ActiveRain.  I haven't seen the cuss words or personal attacks -- maybe because I am relatively new.  I did see one blatant example of plagiarism and commented on it and reported it.  The post was gone before morning.  If I see the cuss words, I will click on the "Report a Concern" and do my best to see this as a forum that I can use with pride.

By the way, I was also a sergeant in the US Army years ago.

It's disappointing to see the things you mentioned, but AR has many members and it's probably very difficult to watch every blog for offensive and unprofessional content.  Don't let that spoil your experience here--you can always use the flag button to let AR know of the offensive post(s).

Thank you for your service--we don't say that enough to those who served and are still on active duty--thank you.

Greg, I'm shocked when I see the curse words too and some of the crude posts and comments. It doesn't happen too often and I think there is still more good than not here. By the way, thank you for your military service!
