I received a phone call from the upper crustity-crusty-crust of the real estate corporate giant which I represent.
Now, when one receives a call from the upper-crustity-crusty-crust, it gives one reason to pause. "Okay, what have I done wrong? What kind of trouble have I gotten myself into this time?"
As it turns out, this call wasn't to "call me on the carpet"... at least not exactly.
Quite a few months ago... one of our Active Rain members created a post on his blog (no, it wasn't me)... complaining about an aspect of the business in which our coporate entity takes part. This member was moaning and beyotching that they suck, they stink and also they don't smell so good neither.
I had commented on this post, and given a few factoids, and moved on... completely forgetting about this peripheral comment.
Ahhh... but all the while this comment was wending it's way through the internet. At some point, it landed on the desk of some big bouys (sic) @ corporate headquarters. They had been attracted to the post by some keywords in it apparently they, (and every other major corporation in the country) have someone whose sole job it is to scour the internet for their keywords, and read up on how the world was perceiving them.
It took some months, but the post had finally crossed the desk of some of the crustity-crusty-giants.
"Now", ms.-corporate-representative said to me "your comment came to our attention... and you're not in trouble. (Phew!)
In fact we went back and forth as to whether or not we should even mention this to you. You didn't say anything wrong... everything you stated was factual and truthful. (Double Phew.)
Our CEO said you didn't do or say anything wrong... so did our regional director, and our local managers... but I thought I'd just give you a heads-up that there are eyes on those blogs... and continue to be very careful about what you say out there... as we'd like to be able to keep you as a representative of our company." (Triple Phew?)
Yeeeef! Just so you know... members only, or not... active rain, or not... the words we type into our computers, and send out there into the world are available for everyone to see... our bosses, our clients, our wives our friends. Make sure you words are truthful and sweet... 'cause you never know when you might be forced, one day, to eat them.
