Encinitas ranked #3 surf town in America

Real Estate Agent with HomeSmart Realty West CalBRE #01458572

If you leave a comment, Jim will visit your blog and leave a comment.Surfer magazine has released in its July issue a list of the Top 10 surfer towns in America, with California claiming the #1 and #3 spots. Santa Cruz came in #1, probably not a surprise to anyone who follows surfing, with Haleiwa, Hawaii, claiming the runner-up spot.

Right there in the bronze medal position is San Diego County's own Encinitas, possibly a surprise since the Los Angeles area -- Huntington Beach, Malibu Beach, Manhattan Beach, etc. -- often claims to have surfing equal to Santa Cruz.

Encinitas is a sleepy, albeit somewhat expensive, seaside community about 20 miles north of downtown San Diego. Encinitas has three excellent beaches within its city limits: Cardiff, Encinitas, and Leucadia. Surfer magazine notes that most garages, especially west of Interstate 5, are furnished with surfboards. The only drawback is that "crowds can be brutally thick." With the added publicity from Surfer magazine now, those crowds probably won't diminish.

If you're looking for your own beach or surfer home, please contact me. I'll help move you in while you check out the surf!

What, Mission or Ocean Beach didn't make the list!!!!! They must have been closed due to "contamination" when the magazine was compiling its list!

I visited Santa Cruz a few years ago and was amazed every other car had a surfboard strapped on the roof! I figured it must be a great place to live if everyone had time to do the things they love like surfing!

Hey, Michael - With all the traffic they have there, people will have to get some beach rentals so they don't have to drive anywhere. LOL

Hey, Dan - Either that or the surfers were at home doing other things, if you know what I mean, and I'm sure you do.

Hey, Betina - I love Santa Cruz, but I don't understand how anyone who goes to the University of California at Santa Cruz ever gets any studying done. Maybe they are on the eight-year plan.

Hey, Jim - It definitely is a nice area, but we don't want to advertise it too much lest the folks from la-la-land start coming down here.

Glad you didn't give away any of our "Sacred Secret Surfing Spots". What sacred secret surfing spots? LOL Add to that the gazillion surf and lifeguard schools inundating the coastline like giant ant colonies and it doesn't take much to realize that those days are long over. But I'm grateful to the owners of these businesses for including proper surf etiquette into their curriculum. I've surfed Santa Cruz and frankly the cold water, sharks, wave bullies and surf Nazis are a bit much for my old bones. Encinitas, Solona Beach and Carlsbad have the most mellow group of surfers around. I wonder if Surfer mentioned that. I'll have to read the article.
