Did you know that you can recycle it and you'll help Mother Nature and those in need of emergency communication. Some old cell phones are refurbished and given to those who are in need of 911, emergency only, communications. Cell phones contain lots toxinic materials and are very hazardous to our environment. Help keep them out of our landfills.

There is a company called ReCellular Inc. it  is the largest recycler and reseller of used wireless phones and accessories in the industry. In 2004, over 3.0 million wireless handsets were collected, refurbished and resold or recycled by ReCellular, a company that that processes about 15,000 phones a day including recent models as well as older varieties. I have seen numbers like 30 - 150 million used cell phones in th US alone.

ReCellular is a respected partner of the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association - the wireless industry's national association - and has managed the CTIA Wireless Foundation's national recycling program since its inception in 1999.

A pioneer in charitable recycling arrangements, ReCellular has well-established partnerships with many national charitable organization There are over 2,000 grassroots organizations from Boy Scouts to religious organizations around the US working to collect cell phones to support their philanthropic efforts.

THAT IS AWESOME!!  I've heard about this, but never knew where to donate.  THANKS for the links!  Now if only I have a phone that I just REPLACE, rather than ruin by dropping it in the pool/ocean/lake/puddle/sink etc....

Our PTA collect cell phones and used ink cartridges.  We get money back for them.  It's an easy way to raise money and help the environment.  I will find the link to the company they use.  Sherry

This is a great post.  I actually recycled my first cell phone to a women's organization that helps batter women and their children find new homes.  I am glad you brought this to the attention of the AR community.
