To Good Not To Share With You All

Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker - Pinecrest (Miami) Broker 3058544

This has nothing to do with real estate but I couldn't help but share this with you.  In one of my realtor magazines I read about this USB flash drive to back up my hard drive. You just plug it into a USB port, press the button on the flash drive and that's it. Well I went to the company's (SanDisk) website and it said, "Introducing the first USB flash drive with a backup button. No wires. No fuss. Just an easier way to protect your favorite photos, videos, songs and more-so you'll always have them with you.

Well I ordered a 16GB flash drive from for $45.04, shipping included. It arrived today! Well it true - I plugged it in clicked OK/Next and that was it. About an hour later, while I still worked on the computer, I was backed up. I plugged the flash drive into my laptop (I just couldn't trust it yet) and sure enough everything was there.

We all know we need to be backing up our files but we just don't. I have found out that with computers it's not a question of "if it's going to crash" it's a question of "when is it going to crash".

That's an awesome size and price for backup.  I'll be getting one myself.  Thanks.

You're exactly right. My company already backs up important files on to a flash drive with plans to purchase a flash drive to back up the whole computer. We have already had a computer crash in the past two years so it is definitely a "Must" do.

Hi Marie,  We are so dependent on all this technology it just makes sense to be able to back up the data.

Marie - The one biggest things I do is backup my data. With this new flash drive it makes it so easy anybody could do it.

Marie - So true, about just a matter of when.  We have had at least 3 desktop computers crash on us over the past 10 years.  We may not have saved everything, but we did have them backed up to a certain point.  Anyway, this sure would make things easier.

Flash based drives are quick and inexpensive, BUT they are not very reliable over the long haul.  My firm has been been in the computer service and repair for many years and we always encourage our clients to back up their data!  Something is better than nothing, but I cant tell you how many times we have been called out to a client that thought everything was OK because they had a "backup" to their flash drive only to find out that it had not been working.  These drives have a very short lifespan.  You may want to consider one of the hard drive based external drives that are just a few dollar more, but offer a lot more protection.
