Christy, on which sites do you currently have a listing (or profile) as a notary signing agent?
"I don't really have a notary profile on any sites yet."
Christy, that is the answer to your question. In order for companies to find you, you have to be listed on notary signing agent sites like 123notary.com, NotaryRotary.com, SigningAgent.com, ... etc. You have to advertise in order to generate business.
In addition to being listed on the frequently used notary sites. you have to sign up with signing services, by the dozens. It will take a lot of work, such as filling out forms, faxing them, etc. But if you want to be in business as a notary signing agent, that's what you have to do.
It will cost money in order to be listed on some of the sites. But it's worth it if you get just one call from it. Like the saying goes: "You have to spend money to make money."
If you go to a site like NotaryRotary you will see a list of companies that hire notary signing agents. There are other sites. Get their contact information (i.e. email) and start requesting sign-up information.
Be patient. It might take a while. California has a lot of notary signing agents.
That's basically it. You have to advertise to let people know you're in business. Good luck.
I will be honest with you, I have my own thoughts about the National Notary Association, as well as many other Signing Agents out there, but I will keep them to myself! I do have a membership with them, but I only applied because I was updating my E&O insurance and they seemed to have the best price at the time. I will not be renewing my membership come this new year, as it has not netted me any additional profit, except a few phone calls from very low paying companies I do not accept work from.
But I do agree with signing up with a Premier Membership at Notary Rotary. 95% of my business comes from there. I have a membership at 123 Notary as well. Also, I participate at various notary message boards as well as here. When I first began my business, notary rotary was a big help. They have a signing service listing on the site and I began applying for many of the services listed. But I did go to their forum and searched each company name before applying to see if they had a good pay time turnaround and to see if they were lowball payers.
There's quite a bit of research to be done if you would like to start up a Notary Business. The more you read up on these forums, the more you will learn. It is a pretty competitive business, but there are a few people out there that are willing to help you out!

I am still looking for the list of companies that hire notaries - there used to be a ton of them out there. I have been doing this for 3 years and what I have found is that you register with these companies and you consistently update your profile with them. Notaryrotary, 123notary, NNA, 50statenotary are all good ones.
I will dig up the list that I have been maintaining and write a post and give these out. Stay tuned
Someone said get in with the title companies and lenders. Well, most of them are just simply calling the signing companies to take the hassle out of it. At least this is what I have found.
I am also a real estate agent.
OK so I am in the right places. I have been registered with 123notary.com and notaryrotary.com, plus I am on the notaryCafe.com which service a number of signing companies and it allows you to put your profile out there and only have to update the profile once. I am also a member of NNA/NSA.
I once was with 50statesnotary.com but I let that one go because of cost. Most of the others charge a fee and with the business being a little slow right now, the fees add up and you end you paying out more than you earn.
I will say DO NOT USE 24-7 NNN. They are lousy. I guess its ok to say that. Lousy, Lousy! They will not pay you. Another one that I ran into was SOX (Sign on the X). They were the worst.
You do have to beware of companies that use you and won't pay you or have you do so many steps BEFORE the signing, at the signing and then fax back all these papers AFTER the signing. By the time you finish with all that, you have not earn a dime.
Christy,
If you want non-loan notary work too, the best notary directory to be on is http://www.123notary.com/
123notary seems to have the best understanding of SEO.

It is so hot here in Central Valley. Somebody pour water on me.....
I forgot to invite you to my celebration this weekend. I will be celebrating my 100th post and I don't want to do it alone. What I need is lots of readers with comments. Can you help me out???? I can't say which day it will be right now because I am stuck between waiting for Sunday so that I can get the whole 200 points for the post or doing it on Saturday 7-7-07 for the luck thing. But either day, it will be a time of celebrating for me. I have been a member since April 2007 and it has been a hard climb for me to get used to posting and bloging and all that. I love the AR network and have invited others (none joined yet) but oh well.
I think it might be a swim party because of this extreme heat. I don't want anyone to be hot and bothered. Hope to see you there! Entry is FREE!

Where ever you are listed be sure to update your profile every month even if you have nothing new to add. Just hit the update button on the 1st day of the month
When companies sees that you haven't updated your profile in a year that think your no longer in the business or not a very good business person.
I get most of my business from needAnotary.net. If you don't pay for premier placement, I don't see how you can get work from 123notary or notaryrotary. I think they exist just to sell supplies and stuff to notaries not willing to pay for a priority listing. Mostly calls from direct lenders and escrow agents. I also get a lot of small jobs (one page) from attorneys, bail agents and nursing homes. Plus, there are wonderful resources on the site like the Edoc viewers and mortgage calculators. The Should I Buy or Rent Calculator can be used as a presentation tool to counsel a homebuyer on the benefits of buying a home now.
There are 2 websites to sign up with to get loan signings in my opinion:
2. http://www.notaryrotary.com/
Websites to get "public notary work"
1. http://www.gogetnotary.com/
2. http://www.notarynet.com/ You have to pay for a premium listing for it to get you listed on Google 1st page.
3. http://www.notarydepot.com/ You have to pay for a premium listing for it to get you listed on Google 1st page.
You can also pay http://www.ducttapemarketing.com/ to get listed on google for public notary work/not loan signing, but this website is expensive!
Christy,
I want to share with you a resource that I feel you will find valuable to help you grow, develop and expand your notary practice. Visit www.needanotary.net
This is a nationwide notary portal used by attorneys, escrow officers, title companies, elder care facilities, bail agents, traffic schools and the general public to find notaries daily. We also have some great tools and resources for notaries, like our Notary Lounge, Financial Calculators and links to all the Secretaries of State to get information or become a notary public.
needAnotary is one of the older notary portals, having been around since 2004 and have a loyal following of business builders that depend of the services of professional services. Notaries receive higher fees from our network that they usually receive from signing services and are paid more promptly.
