Friday June 1, 2007 is National Doughnut Day!
This is more than a tasty sounding holiday. This is a national celebration that takes place every year on the first Friday in June.
WHY??? You may be asking.
...the Salvation Army of course!
Let me do some explaining. During WW1 Salvation Army "Lassies" served on the front lines in Europe. They made home cooked foods and served them up with a healthy serving of moral boost to the weary troops. the volunteers would sometimes cook the tasty treats in servicemen's helmets right on the field of combat.
BRAVE LADIES!
Nowadays the Salvation Army and other charitable organizations use this day as a fund-raising opportunity. If you find them out there...please be generous.
I will be calling on some business partners on this years National Doughnut Day with a dozen golden brown glazed beauties to share.
Want to join in the holiday spirit? How about a donation to the Salvation Army?
