Hello Debi....this might just be the largest rainbow I've ever seen.  It is HUGE!!!!  Look at the way the colors go on and on in the top shot.  I've never seen anything like it.  How about a little story for your buddy in Florida.  Like, I was out walking when.....

Excellent my friend :-)

Rainbows are so hard to capture. The colors are so different than those you see. Of course Debi Boucher can capture anything, anytime, anywhere!!!

Debi,

An amateur photographer would have moved so that the tree wasn't in the picture of the rainbow. I think it adds to the shot.

Unless it's my computer monitor the top photo has about 8 or 9 color bands.

I'm with Gail on this...what's the story behind the photo?

Hello Everyone! Thanks so much for all your great comments - These are actually two different rainbows - captured on two different days. The top photo was taken yesterday afternoon in my backyard, after a storm passed thru. What we see with our eyes is affected by haze, and glare. I use a Circular Polarizing lens on my camera, that greatly reduces that glare. When I looked at the rainbow, I did not see that many 'bands'. After looking at the shot on my computer, I was blown away!  The second shot was taken after the big storm a couple weeks ago, ( I posted the storm cloud photos of that one), while driving thru Garden of the Gods.  And like Gail, it was the biggest rainbow I have ever seen in my life. Again, I was blown away! Rich, whenever possible, as you well know, it is best to frame a shot. Framing lends perspective. One would not have fully appreciated the size and scope of these rainbows without the trees in the shot. Pot of Gold or not, (LOL) I feel as tho these were gifts, and am thankful to have captured them so I could share them with you!

I thank you all for stopping by!

Debi

PS Paul- You'd be amazed at the shots I DON"T get! LOL Ticks me off when that happens..... :)

Wow, you actually got two rainbows!  I seem to associate them with luck, maybe it's the "gold" thing, I don't know.  They are beautiful!  How cool to not even know how beautful they were until you saw the pictures!

You lucky girl! We were out driving when I saw one of those giant rainbows yesterday too! No camera, for the first time in FOREVER! We raced home, I ran inside, grabbed my camera and came outside, I caught just the faintest little sliver, just over my neighbors house, and it was gone...I was so disappointed because the rainbow I saw, was as you described, an UNBELIEVABLE arc! FABULOUS SHOT, love the unending bands!

Cheryl - It was spectacular, wasn't it? I've never seen anything quite like it before. Of course the storms we've been having have been spectacular, too - Way too many tornado warnings for my liking. Somehow, I don't remember so many before, do you? On the eastern plains, yes. But in the mountains, no. I guess every region has to have it's downside.... Have a good night - and thanks for sharing your experience. (Next time I hope you have your camera with you!!!!)

Hi Steve, If you do, make sure it is a Circular PL - My understanding is that is necessary for digital.

Hey John, Give it a try and let me know how it works! LOL
