This is going to be the biggest tax imposed on American Citizen or in fact any citizen in the world - IT IS THE BIGGEST TAX IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD.

Energy Tax Facts

The Markey-Waxman “Cap-and-trade” Energy Tax bill, in the current form being considered by the House Energy and Commerce committee, would have the following catastrophic effects by 2035:

  1. Reduce aggregate gross domestic product (GDP) by $9.6 trillion;

  2. Destroy 1,105,000 American jobs per year on average, with peak years seeing unemployment rise by over 2,479,000 jobs;

  3. Raise electricity rates 90 percent after adjusting for inflation;

  4. Raise inflation-adjusted gasoline prices by 74 percent;

  5. Raise residential natural gas prices by 55 percent;

  6. Raise an average family's annual energy bill by $1,500 annually; and

  7. Increase inflation-adjusted federal debt by 26 percent, or $29,150 additional federal debt per person, again after adjusting for inflation.

It is all about the government taking more of our personal rights. Utimately, it will be overthrown by citizens who are not just tired and angry. but are willing to die for change. Sounds terrible, but that is what the American revolution was all about too.

BRAVO for posting this! Does anyone remember the Boston Tea Party? It was over taxation! We need another Tea Party...a real, honest to goodness one and not the one that has been going around with little interest.

Americans need to wake up and realize what OUR employees (elected officials) are doing to US (taxpayers) the employer! We need to get back to smaller government and stop spending and taxing our way out of things. Spending never solves the problems, but try and tell that to the current administration...none of them understand that!

Applying more taxes will send businesses OUT of this country in search of more favorable corporate tax locations...there's the loss of jobs!

All of the 219 that voted for this tax monstrosity should be fired (voted out of office) at the next election! As Susan Powder used to say..."STOP THE INSANITY!"

Bo Kociuba - Interesting post.  A bit biased, but interesting.  Maybe you don't have the same problems I've noticed in Colorado and Iowa, but a lot of trees are dieing from the heat stress.  Personally, I believe it's a trade off, drowning in a sea of Federal Debt (which I don't believe will be nearly as bad as charaterized here), or suffocate to death from the CO2 and the heat.  Global warming is not some kind of a myth.

Here's a link to another, perhaps a bit more balanced perspective than the Heritage Foundation -- a well-known Republican mouth-piece/think-tank.

Mother Jones -- Waxman-Markey: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

And from the Pew Center for Global Climate Change -- the Myths about the Waxman-Markey Clean Energy Bill seems to add a bit more balance.  Note the reference under Myth #2 to the Heritage Foundation study.

Here's an excerpt.  "Finally, the Heritage Foundation recently issued a memo claiming that the Waxman-Markey bill would cost households $4,300 annually. But this analysis fails to consider many of the key provisions of the bill including its extensive use of offsets to reduce overall costs and its use of the value of emission allowances to reduce costs to consumers".

Obviously, I think we're seeing some "change we can believe in" and the results of this energy bill are going to be very good changes, Bo,  for the vast majority of Americans.   Reducing our dependence on foreign oil, and creating jobs that can't be outsourced -- these are paramount if we are to starve the coffers of those who fund the radical-Islamists, like those who attacked us on 9/11/2001.

Andrew - I value your opinion...thanks for voicing it... I think we actually are on the same page ...I am not talking about alternative energy pursuits or not taking care of the environment...we cannot solve our problems by taxing and more spending...I am addressing the fact that our economy will crash,  as we a nation will not be able to be competitive, loose a huge amount of jobs...create super stagnation in the economy and many more...we as a nation cannot survive the 'global warming' scam!

Global warming hoax

So minimize the use of pesticides, fertilizers, dumping sewage and refuse to our river streams!!! These are just a few true solutiions needed... not taxing the amount of bulbs we have, what kind, what car we drive,  and among others - 'cow emissions' ...

this is so politically driven...it is so obvious!

Where is Robin Hood?? Remember him, he stoled from the rich and gave to the poor (middle man?) but the government steals from everyone! Your government doesn't have exclusivity though; ours does the same!

Bo, I am more with Andrew. No bill is perfect, and other economist including Paul Krugman strongly dispute the figures. We are stewards of this planet and we have done a rotten job. I am glad that president obama has taken the offense on this. Also remeber that 33% of our soarinf deficit can be attributed to Bush's failed and corrupt war policies, as well as the tax cuts for the rich. Couple that to the Collapse of the financial sector and you have a much bigger mess than cap and trade could ever be.
