Am I all alone out here...

Okay, I have a daughter graduating from high school this year and wonder if I am just way out of the loop or there are others who agree that high school graduation celebrations might be a bit too excessive.

When I graduated from high school, we sent out modest announcements with a small picture, a few people had parties right after graduation,  but the day/night was spent with family.    We enjoyed a nice summer relaxing, then off to college (or work) we went.

Now it seems that announcement are more like wedding invitations, many have eloborate parties, spend weeks at the beach, graduations are held at huge halls or stadiums (no longer on the football field), and the speakers are politicians or celebrities.  The list goes on and on.

Is it getting too excessive or is it me?

Young lady, you are getting old.  Times have not changed that much.  You are now experiencing what your parents experienced while they were raising teenagers.  SOSDD.

Maybe someday you will realize the sacrifices your parents made!

Hi Dawn,

Well, when we graduated back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, we had an icecream cake with family.  Don't remember there being invitations or parties.  This is definitely the age of "Excess" and it's very sad because the excess waters down the importance and special-ness of the occassion.  Welcome to the Rain!
