And the show must go on...Fourth of July Celebration in Delray Beach, FL

While many cities scaled back or are not having an annual firework celebration because of budget issues, it's nice to know some are "celebration as normal" Delray Beach plans to celebrate the Fourth of July with music, fun-filled activities and spectacular fireworks.  

Festivities will include

  • A sand sculpting contest on Delray Beach
  • The 30 x 60 foot American flag raising
  • Dancing on the beach
  • The Patriotic Bicycle & Scooter Parade
  • The Beautiful Baby Bathing Suit Contest
  • 9:00 pm Grucci fireworks display, a grand finale tribute to our country's birthday. 

STREET CLOSURES AND TRAFFIC ADVISORY- On Saturday, July 4th, from noon to approximately midnight, the following street closures will take effect:  All southbound traffic on A1A (Ocean Boulevard) will be detoured via Thomas Street back to NE 8th Street (George Bush Blvd).  All northbound traffic on A1A will be detoured via Miramar Drive back to southbound A1A to Linton Blvd.  Also, East Atlantic Avenue will be closed from the east side of NE/SE 7th Avenue to A1A.  East Atlantic Avenue, George Bush Blvd and Linton Avenue bridges will be locked down to boat traffic from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

PARKING- Handicapped parking will be available at the north and south ends of the A1A closures near Thomas and Miramar on a first come, first served basis.  Handicap vehicles must have placards and registration when approaching checkpoints.  The public is urged to park in Downtown Delray Beach and take the short walk to the beach.  The following garages will be open for public parking "free of charge"for the entire day: Robert Federspiel Parking Garage (22 SE 1st Avenue) and the Old School Square Parking Garage (95 NE 1st Avenue) which may be accessed by traveling eastbound or westbound on NE 1st Street or southbound on NE 1st Avenue.

DOWNTOWN ROUNDABOUT SHUTTLE BUS MODIFIED ROUTE - On July 4th, the Downtown Roundabout freeshuttle bus will run on a modified route with service continuing until 11:00 pm.  Due to the closing of East Atlantic Avenue just west of the Intracoastal bridge, the Route 1 and Route 2 shuttle buses will travel on East/West Atlantic Avenue from the Tri Rail station and the Delray Beach Public Library to Federal Highway (NE/SE 6th Avenue) and make its return trips from this point.  To view the Fourth of July modified Downtown Roundabout Shuttle Bus schedule & map, visit www.downtowndelraybeach.com/july-fourth-celebration.
