I thought I would share a Quick Tip.
I am sure we have all been there before. You found a really good post with lots of links. Sometimes they open in a new window and other times they don't. Through all the opening and closing of new links, it's easy to accidentally close the window that contained the blog you were reading. This tip will help eliminate that.
Note: This only works for IE7 and Firefox If you have IE6, then skip down to the bottom of this post.
Force to Open In A New Tab
As you come across a link in a blog. Simply hold the "control" key down as you click the link. This will force the link to be opened in a new tab (even if the blog author did not code the link to open in a new window).
Read the Entire Blog First
I find that it's fastest to read the entire blog though, "control clicking" each link that interest me. The nice thing about this, the new tabs open up "behind" your current page. In other words, they do not take you off of the blog post. Then, after I have finished reading the blog, I can explore all the new tabs that I opened when reading the blog post.
Go ahead and try it. you won't have to worry about accidentally closing the wrong window again!
Internet Explorer 6
If you are still using IE6 then just hold the shift key down as you click a link. This will force the link to open in a new window regardless of how it was coded.
For all you Mac lovers out there, I think you need to use the "apple" key. I am not at my office so I can't try it out on a mac to verify this.
