Finding Balance

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker RE LLC

I've been in the real estate business for 5 years now and I can honestly say that for me it's been the best business that I've ever had the privilege of being a part of.  That being said, I find myself going back to the same dilemma; finding a balance between my home and professional life.  As we all know, our profession can be very demanding of our time, and at very odd hours to boot!  Unfortunately, this reality has led to more then my fair share of "discussions" with my significant other.  Not to mention that we have two young children.  I think that just like the home sellers that we work with do not see 75% of the things that we do to get their homes sold; anyone who's not on the front lines of this industry does not realize just how challenging and labor intensivee it is to keep the phone ringing.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not whining, just wondering what it is that other agents do help their spouses deal with the pressures of being married to a Realtor!

Oh boy...I can relate.  This past year has really taken it's toll on me professionally AND personally.  I have found myself working from 8am til at least 10 pm, following up with emails, etc.  The big push started in March and now I'm just exhausted.  I'm crabby and have no patience left.

Sadly, my family has been put on the back burner.   I have always tried to follow my belief in "work to live, not live to work".  I need to get back to that.  My husband is losing patience with me.

I think many of us are too afraid to say no right now and find ourselves held hostage by the state of the market,  don't you?

Keep hanging in there.  Fall is around the corner and we should have more free time on our hands, I hope :)  Sounds like we both need to find a balance, doesn't it!

I can't imagine balancing a spouse and a career in real estate as I would probably feel guilty about ignoring one or the other way too much.  But clearly many manage the balance and one success strategy I've seen is for both to be agents so they both understand!
