Huntsville Water Restriction Rumors Spreading Around Town
Submitted by: Kimberly Grant
There had been a buzz around town that water usage will be restricted soon due to the recent weather we are having. Representatives from Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) have released a statement assuring that there are no watering bans in our area currently by Huntsville Utilities. Being so close to the Tennessee River has definitely shown to be a benefit for us during this dry spell that we are experiencing. Approximately 80% of our water comes from the Tennessee River. Unless there is a major equipment breakdown that affects pumping, there is not a foreseen water ban coming to our area.
Whether there is a water restriction or not, it is pretty clear that we are definitely in a drought situation here in North Alabama. Below you will see the report from the National Weather Service Website. As of May 29, 2007, we were classified as D3 extreme drought. There is only one stage higher than our current state.

The weekly forecast for the upcoming week shows more hot, dry days ahead. Our area is expected to be in the low to mid nineties for most of the week. Please be careful if you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors. Do not forget the sunblock and remember to drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Be sure to keep watch on the kids and the elderly during this time. I hope you are will be safe as you prepare for another summer in the Tennessee Valley.
