On Monday July 6, 2009 it was officially announced that Apple Inc. plans to build its new $1 billion East Coast data center in Maiden NC.
Near the intersection of Startown Road and U.S. 321 the California-based technology giant will build the 500,000-square-foot facility at the 183-acre WestStar Mission Critical Business Park.
The hope is that Apple will fill the job positions with local people. Gov. Beverly Perdue's office has estimated the data center could generate another 250 jobs for people providing services to the plant and more than 3,000 related jobs for the region surrounding the site.
