I have to admit, I don't know what this is...we were at the WildLife Zoo in Phoenix in the aquarium buildings.

Konnie - Now that is funny, it's hard to tell which end is up or down. And I'm with you n the animals getting stanger, I wouldn't know half of these animals if it was not for having kids who love the zoo and the aquarium. :)

When the page came up on my computer screen, I could only see the top half of the fish, and I had no idea what I was going to see on your Wordless Wednesday. I was surprised when it turned out to be a fish. That's the strangest tail I've ever seen on any fish!

I'm with Michael, I think it's a pipefish. Aquariums are great. We have African Cichlids in our tank and they're pretty entertaining.

It's not a gar, and it's certainly not the reincarnation of Fred Astaire. It is, however, a species of pipefish.

Considering how close San Diego is to the Pacific Ocean, I've always wondered why our Scripps Aquarium isn't anywhere near the Top 10 aquariums that I've been to. Some of the finest, although in no particular order:

Monterey Aquarium (Monterey CA)
Aquarium of the Pacific (Long Beach CA)
New England Aquarium (Boston)
State Aquarium of Texas (Corpus Christi)
Newport Aquarium (Cincinnati, but actually across the river in Kentucky)
Vancouver Aquarium
Florida Aquarium (Tampa)

Regrettably, I have not been to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, but I'm pretty sure it will be in the Top 10 when I finally do get there.
