FAUX HOMEOWNERS

California seems to lead the way in many trends including housing.  According to the Wall Street Journal, builders in California are taking "home staging" to another level - they are implementing a version of the barter system by hiring home decorators to occupy vacant luxury homes at reduced cost in exchange for the decorator providing a "lived in" look to the house while it is being shown to potential buyers.  The decorators earn a significant bonus if the home sells fast so there is incentive to make the home as appealing as possible.

Faux homeowners could become the next big thing in Home Staging.

Gloria - I have heard that in San Francisco, this is already a fairly common thing.  If the home is vacant, it just doesn't sell, so homeowners pay for someone to live in the home in order for it to sell.
