Are you using FireFox?

IFireFox eats Internet Explorerf you aren't you should be...  It is simply a better browser...

I know, I know.  Your MLS doesn't work on it, and the franchise you are part of doesn't support it.  Well... there are two points you need to know.

  • There isn't a reason in the world you can't have two (or more) browsers installed on your computer.  I have three that I use regularly.  I use FireFox for almost everything except my MLS.  I use Internet Explorer to access the MLS.  I use Safari to check my sites for compatibility.
  • More sites are going to be compatible with FireFox... even the MLS.  There is a standard for browsers... and Internet Explorer isn't actually compliant with it, at least not versions before IE8.  Since IE has come out with IE8, designers have had to start the process of bringing their sites into W3 compliance... and FireFox IS compliant with the standards.

In fact, the sites that aren't compatible with FireFox are generally not compatible with Internet Explorer 8.  IE will function on them, but it has to be set to compatibility mode.

But that doesn't mean they are the same!

FireFox has a GIANT advantage over everything else... the user community.  More specifically the 3rd party applications that the user community has built for FireFox.  From LinkedIn to de.licio.us and scores of other sites, there are plug-ins to make the browsing experience more fun or productive.  Clip tools, Twitter tools and website builder tools... diagnostic tools, too.

And Active|Rain works better on FireFox, too...

We are the elite of technologists in the real estate world.  We are the bloggers and the generally "techno-forward" agents and vendors...  Shouldn't we also be the ones that are using the right tools?

So, if you aren't using FireFox, you should be...

I do use Firefox at the office, but not for any RE activity. I know many people love it, but I honestly don't like the basic usage differences. It feels unnatural. I know what to expect with I.E.!

Firefox and Open Office, both are great to use.    I can't remember the last time I even used IE.   The Techie that set up my office insisted that we use both, he declared that both are great and since Im all about saving money where I can....

Firefox Rules!  I've been using it for many years now...IE is so...AOL.  It is a faster, safer, and more intuitive browser than IE.  To me, the transition was seamless.

Thanks everyone.

Todd & Devona - It is obviously different from IE... but after you use it for a while, you will find it is much better suited to working on the web, especially when you start adding plug-ins.

For those of you that are wondering about WHY FireFox is a better solution, here is one example...  NoDoFollow.   It is a tool you can use to more efficiently promote your blog...

Lane,

Since I started using firefox I had to leave it once when it simply wouldn't work anymore. Went to different browsers then came back with the new 3.5 (now 3.5.1) :)

Steve - I get pretty regular updates.  That is one of the things I see with open source software... there are a LOT of people looking for issues and so the changes are pretty common.

Why in the world would anyone argue with the validity of this post?  I don't get it.

It's an introduction to a new and better tool that you are maybe not aware of.  That's all.

As to the question of what browser is your reader using?  Why not answer that yourself?

I just went to my Google Analytics and looked to see the current browser share for my site:

Looks like FF wins hands down!

Wait a second...  What's that you say?  You don't have Google Analytics?

Guess what?  That's another tool for your toolbox and maybe, just maybe, you should look into using it. (like maybe you should look into Firefox as well).

Shall I go on?

Thank you for sharing Lane! (I've bookmarked this for further reading)

Mike - I don't think your readers are indicative of ours...  For my blog here, I just looked at the last 30 days via Clicky.

  • 67.2% of my guests were using a version of IE.
  • 24.0% were using a version of FireFox
  • 3.7% were using Safari
  • 2.4% were using a mobile browser (I hadn't thought about that...)
  • 2.3% were using Chrome.
  • 0.3% were using Opera

That covers 5,041 visitors in the last 30 days.  I was actually expecting more to be on IE... I guess FireFox is catching on.  the results were similar on my personal site, LaneBailey.com.  I actually had 3 hits from a Playstation 3 console, too...

But, it still doesn't matter what readers are using... FireFox is a better tool for bloggers to use to make a better blog...

Lane - that might be true - I have a slightly different demogrographic I'm aiming at.

My point, either way, is that it's just a tool in the toolbox, which was your purpose all along.  (just caught me on short fuse day)

If you like I can also recreate the SpamTastic comment style of Tom  : )

Mike - you do shoot for a different crowd...  And FireFox is a tool... like a screwgun instead of a screwdriver.  And please don't recreate the spamtasm up there...

I like Firefox so much more than Explorer but I still have to use it for the MLS.  One thing I like about Firefox is how it can save the different sites you were on even if you close the browser to come back to later.

I guess I need to start using Firefox...had no idea all those fun things could be used - out of habit I'm still on IE but guess some change is coming!

Patricia - We can't use it for the MLS here, either.  And I LOVE being able to save the sites I am on until the next day when I fire up again...

Sonja - You can use both...

I love FireFox and all the APPS!

I have different APPS on my desktop and laptop as they get used differently.

FireFox is so customizable!

Lane,

As usual I defer to your lead. You are usually one or two steps ahead of many and light years ahead of most. Some Realtors are still wondering, whats a firey fox got to do with anything anyway. Stay cool.
