Hi Laura,
Amazing wear, is it appropriate to call it a costume, or ? I'm not sure.
I think they refer to them as costumes...
Don't think it was a rain dance--- but maybe. Took the pics about 6 weeks ago, and we had a really rainy month after that (by NM standards!)
Laura,
Nice picture - especially for Localism. Very colorful and important to promote the local tradition. :)

Laura, wanted to stop by and check your blog. Interesting pictures... living in PA which of course is named after William Penn's family... it is interesting to note and a matter of history that he came with the rightful deeds from King Charles of England and found native peoples on the land. Even though he could just take the land according to his customs and laws... he took the high road and actually made treaties with all the tribes and paid them again for the land. Some parcels 3 and 4 times as several tribes claimed it belonged to them all. Our native brother and sisters were not all treated that way everywhere and there has never been a formal apology from our government to them. Some token restitutions were made but no formal declaration of wrong doing. I think you honor them by spreading their traditions and sharing them with others. Also, many natives are actually dancing and praying to Yahweh or the equivalent in their language. Blessings to you.
Bob
Thanks, Bob & Steve. We're so used to our multi-cultural traditions in NM that this is not an unusual scene, but must look so elsewhere.

Presley Byington is a native performer here that does some wonderful dance performances in full costume. Great photos.
