Brazos Bend State Park - Little Blue Heron & Black-Bellied Whistling Ducks

This picture was taken by our daughter at Brazos Bend State Park.  The park is only a little over an hour from our house and I was amazed at all the wildlife we saw.  The bird pictures all tend to fit better in a long format so this did not fit in my last post where the alligators fit sideways.  Somehow I NEVER thought about Texas and alligators going together but they do.  If you would like to see Alligators in Texas please visit my post at Alligators anyone.

Marchel -- again what incredible pictures.  I knew about the human "aligators" in Texas... I must say, I think I stick with the birds. (lol)

DALE, Thanks for stopping by.  I love the variety we have here in Texas to photograph.

SHARON, My daughter captured that.  I was with her but my Tamron lens is in the shop.

STEVE, It is nice to know your neighbors; especially when they have teeth.

KAREN ANNE, In a sense she has published a book.  You will find it at Tarina Peterson

TONY and DARCY, The credit goes to our daughter.

RICHARD, I had NO IDEA we had alligators living so close to us.

MICHAEL, My daughter has a very good eye and has learned all the camera setting.

TOM, I was surprised that different species of birds would hang out like that.

JOAN, It was amazing the diversity of birds we saw.

CARON, I'm glad our daughter insisted we go.  Now we want to go when it is cooler.

CHARLES, They do almost look prehistoric especially the heron.

GEORGE, The alligators do have more complexity to them.

JIM and MARIA, That surprised me also that the different birds would be so close to each other.

ANN, Our daughter had a fairly good zoom lens.

Hi Marchel, I like this photo!  I tried to chase a blue heron around our lake, but he never wanted anything to do with me!  I think if I had a telephoto I could have captured him.  I like the way this one is almost a silhouette - very cool, and I have never heard of a black bellied whistling duck! :-)

Marchel,

The Blue Heron is my favorite bird. I was on the boat a few nights ago and saw a birg beautiful one. Trying to take a pictures as it took off. I looked like a crazy person trying to capture it as it's flying and the boat is moving. Unsuccessful but will try again.

BARB, I agree!  You almost look at the picture and say shadow but then look harder and realize it is a Heron not a duck.

MARY, I did that recently at a small lake in The Woodlands but it was me running around the lake.  I got some pictures but none that stood out.

MONIQUE, I saw one at our local lake eating a fish out on the pier.  I so wished I had my camera around my neck but I had run in to Subway to buy sandwiches and did not have it with me.  It was one of those moments that will always stick in my mind though.

I had a greater appreciation for Texas after driving from New Orleans to San Diego with my marketing guru. That drive on Interstate 10 from Beaumont to El Paso sure encompasses a lot of real estate and a lot of diversity in landscape.

RITA, I had a GREAT weekend at Galveston and saw lots of birds.

RENEE, We have REALLY little roadrunners here.

JIM, You can see almost any kind of terrain you could ask for in the state of Texas.  We put up a battle coming to Houston because we like trees; little did we know that is it almost subtropical here.

SUE, Totally different species; although they obviously reside in each others area.  Those ducks are just fun and carry on but there's nothing so majestic as a heron.
