Before buying lake property, it is essential to learn these definitions.  There are three types of lake properties. 1) Lakefront or waterfront property, defined as having the lake out your back door.  Your property borders the lake and you live on the lake, 2) Lakeview or water view property, defined where you have a view of the lake, but your property doesn't border the lake, and 3) Lake access or water access property, defined as having access to the lake (your property doesn't border the lake, and you don't see the lake). With lake access or water access property, you are just a short walk or drive away from enjoying the lake.  Whatever type of lifestyle you desire, we'll be able to help!

Since some communities use Lake Hickory as their drinking water supply, the water level remains constant, where other lakes in the Carolinas as well as other states can vary dramatically. Unlike most other North Carolina lakes, Lake Hickory offers a crystal blue color, since it has a sandy bottom, as opposed to clay. Duke Energy has kept over 20 miles of shoreline for natural areas. The rest of the shoreline displays custom built homes, ranging in size from 2,000 to 7,000+ square feet, with beautiful docks, many with second level viewing decks. Many people describe the natural beauty of Lake Hickory as "breathtaking."

Stretching from the Appalachian Mountains in the west to the sun baked Outer Banks of the Atlantic Coast, North Carolina is a diverse and exciting state. North Carolina is home to over 8 million people and boasts nearly 600 golf courses and 3,300 miles of shoreline.

Much of North Carolina's mountain region is covered by hardwood forests whose leaves display vibrant colors each fall and certain High Country areas experience over 30 inches of snow a year. This magical mountain region features some of the most remarkable skiing, luxury and vacation real estate on the east coast.  Summers in the North Carolina Mountains are cool and refreshing, making outdoor adventuring a true pleasure. Some of the finest mountain scenery on the east coast can be found along the 250 miles of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Parkway, which includes the tallest peak (6,684 ft.) in the Eastern United States and the "Grand Canyon of the East" at Linville Gorge.  The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is home to the widest variety of plant and animal life on the continent.  The Davidson River in Transylvania County has been rated as one of the Top 100 Trout Streams in the U.S. by Trout Unlimited.  Approximately 300 miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail span North Carolina.  North Carolina's Western National Forests are some of the state's best outdoor assets.  Scenic vistas, remote gorges, sheer rock walls, wild rivers, waterfalls, and high mountains offer some of the best outdoor opportunities in the state.

Gentle rolling foothills, glistening lakes and picturesque farmland define the central Piedmont region. This fast growing area is known for its high tech industries based around the renowned Research Triangle of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. The NC Piedmont has of one of the most dynamic economies in the country and is home to North Carolina's largest cities and financial institutions. Golfers love the area's collection of world-class golf course communities and resort real estate as well as the mild year round temperatures and 200 days of sunshine a year.  Believed to be the oldest mountains in North America, the ancient Uwharrie Mountains (less than an hour south of Greensboro and about the same distance east of Charlotte) are increasingly used as a venue for competitions described as either "extreme," "ultra" or "adventure." The Dan River, flowing freely through Rockingham County, has been dubbed the "lazy river" because of its leisurely and relaxing pace.  This makes it well suited for paddlers of any skill level.  During a trip down the Dan, paddlers can see remains of the past, from Native American relics 300 to 10,000 years old to remaining sites of the Saura Indian tribe.

The state's barrier islands and coastal towns are pristine and inviting. The 130 mile long Cape Hatteras National Seashore, America's first National Seashore, is one of this nation's great natural treasures.  The Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout National Seashores are home to four beautiful lighthouses.  The storied NC Outer Banks, the barrier islands that act as a physical sand buffer between the Atlantic Ocean and the shallow sounds, feature pristine beaches and giant sand dunes. The Croatan National Forest in eastern North Carolina encompasses many ecosystems from salt marshes, swamps, pocosins and long leaf pine savannahs.  Water virtually surrounds the forest with Bogue Sound on the south and crisscrossed with other tidal rivers and creeks. With such a diverse topography, the plant and animal life is diverse as well. The coastal region has always been a paradise for fishing and boating enthusiasts and the new coastal communities offer extraordinary oceanfront, waterfront and marina access properties for all lifestyles.
