COMPARING RESIDENTIAL SIDING

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Grew Design, Inc.

I am looking for unbiased comparisons of the pros and cons of vinyl siding versus cedar clapboard siding and fiber cement. Issues such as resale value, longevity, etc would be considerations. I am consulting with a condominium owners association who are divided with some wanting to replace 25-yr old cedar with vinyl and others who want to keep the wood. I have my personal preference but I am trying (with difficulty) to find real data comparing the products to provide a more balanced comparison and recommendation. Any resources or information you can point me to would be appreciated.

Hi Greg!

My partner is a building scientist and can give you so much information about this subject, your eyes will cross!!

I can tell you right now, I am no friend of vinyl because of the environmental impact due to it's off- gassing poisonous fumes.

Fiber cement is good, Hardiplank stuff like that...

Wood is the way to go. There are several green encapsulates that will protect material from mold etc...TiO2 is one of them.

We are really excited about a structural building product using agricultural by-products such as rice and wheat straw..

Contact us anytime, we'll help you out, and if we can't we can put you in touch with others 'in the know'!
