Power of Blogs in Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

I saw a great post on BusinessBlogWire.com about the power of blogging in getting ranked high on search engines.

The biggest take-away from the article is this:

SEO = search engine optimization.
Search engines love blogs.
Blogs = great SEO.

Yes, I think we should get Matt to set up a survey on Active Rain to see just how many of the members are working on blogs.

Some possible survey questions:

1.  Do you have a blog about your real estate business (exclude personal blogs)
2.  Is the blog a directory or sub-domain of your main web site?
3.  If not, what free hosting service do you use (blogger, wordpress.com, etc.).
4.  If yes, what blogging tool do you use (MoveableType, WordPress, etc).
5.  Do you pay for someone to blog content for you?
6.  How many posts do you do weekly, daily, monthly?
7.  What has been the ROI -- e.g. leads or sales directly related to your blog relative what you spent for it (in money and TIME)
8.  If you do not have a blog, do you plan to create one in the next 3 months? If so, why?

That's just a few off the top of my head.

To relate blogs better to SEO.

Search Engines like updated content, keywords, and natural inbound links. Blogs are usually keyword rich if you stay on topic about your industry. People are always linking to blog posts (especially good ones) and commenting about them, which is exactly what this post is doing, so blogs encourage inbound links. A good blogger will post multiple times a week, which shows the search engines that it is regularly updated. But if you don't practice all of these thkings, a blog may not help your ranking much.
