I am too affraid to "TWEET"

By

I set up an account in Twitter a long time ago and have yet to make my first "Tweet."  I know with my OCD in full force, it would only be a matter of time before I am dropping 20-30 Tweets per day.  Is that good to do?  I don't even know!

I have even heard a story on a local radio station as I was driving into work the other day saying that a man was out on a morning jog through his neighborhood and ran head first into a low level branch hanging over the sidewalk...Because he was face down in his Blackberry making his latest Tweet :)

Has the Tweet replaced the blog?  It seems like more and more people are gravitating in that direction.  Maybe it is time I check it out.  I always like to post something to see what others have done before me.  Anyone that would like to leave a comment about what success they have had with Twitter and what seems to be most effective would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. Twitter is one of a kind. I find Facebook, Linkedin and Active Rain much more easier to use and/or understand. I also have received an e-mail saying that somebody is following me on Twitter now! So I looked at the profile it was not a good picture of semi-naked lady and her "tweet" said: are you a younger guy who is looking for a hot older lady?" or something like that. I just blocked that user. It is amazing what we can find.

I started twitter a few months ago, reluctantly, and actually like it. Don't be afraid, just get used to it. Feel free to follow me @cleverealtordan and I'll follow back. Just like everything else, I don't get too wrapped up in it, but I've gotten some great info from some of the Tweets. I still feel like blogging is more important because of the SEO it gives us, but I guess Twitter, FB, Linked-in all are good in small doses. Thanks for the post, Travis.

Travis . . . I love Twitter for the same reason I love my MySpace status messages - they are short.

If you can't bring yourself to Tweet . . . you may be thinking in terms of what to share ABOUT YOU rather than to share WHAT INTERESTS YOU.

There are days I don't feel like sharing or ranting or revealing -  but I like what someone else did and I retweet it . . .

TRAVIS: I like to send tweets of photos I have taken in my state of interest and use twit pic. I post videos of songs that have inspired me or re tweeted someone words of wisdom. I am not as addicted to twitter and facebook as I am to Active Rain.

Travis, come on in, the Tweets fine.  I don't Twitter often, but got two good leads so far.  If I worked it harder, I think it would be far more fruitful.  Still like the Rain for all the great information and friends, though.

Travis,

I really enjoy Twitter.  I keep up with what is happening all over the world.  I use Tweetdeck to translate the Tweets that are in other languages.

I have also received a couple of referrals so far.  I do feel it should be used along with ActiveRain, Facebook, LinkedIn,etc.

I've had the same strange experience as Ally, the first commenter.  Weird half naked lady "following" me for no apparent reason.  Not a very professional tool.  I'm not too convinced that Tweeter is anything "great".  I stick closer to my Facebook and Myspace accounts.

Sincerely,

Kathleen

Travis - I love Twitter myself.  I have used it to recruit agents and garner leads, although a lot of the time it's just fun to hang out.  Let me know if I can ever be of help.

Where ever you are, that's where I'll be!

Twitter is lots of fun and you will find that you'll start tweeting with lots of interesting people and learn lots of interersting information.  Yes, you will get an occasional "follow request" from someone who seems questionable. And you'll see lots of spam tweets.  You can just block them so that you don't have to be bothered by them again.  If you use an interface like Tweetdeck which will section your Tweets, you can then just focus on Tweets that are Direct Messages (DMs) or that mention you specifically. (It's a real time saver).  One more thought, though you will certainly become connected with people all over the world as you become more and more comfortable with Twitter, as a Realtor,  try to look out for people living in your area by using a Twitter tool such as Geofollow.com (There are other tools to find local Twitterers as well).

By the way, I havent (yet) used Twitter on a cell phone.  Twitter can be addictive.  Tweeting from a cell phone would be too much for me, I think.  Be disciplined with Twitter.

I guess I am with you Travis.  I have an "account" but I really don't use it much.  I still haven't figured out this tweeter thing.  People say you can learn so much, but the things are so short, I can barely even understand what someone is trying to get across in such a small space.  Or, you have to sort through a million "I am sitting on the toilet" tweeters to get to something useful.  Maybe I just haven't realized the full potential of this new phenomenon?
