My wife asked me the other day if there was a such thing as green inspecting. I said not really but I do inspect homes that have been built to the new green code. If that is what you would call a green inspection then I guess I perform them.
As a contractor, customers are always asking me if I am a green conscious builder and my reply is always you can't work in the building industry for the last 10 years and not be. I began building homes as a carpenter's helper on custom homes for a contractor that was very green minded, although I didn't know that at the time. I was a mere helper so ideas and blueprints weren't shared with me. All I knew was that I was framing with I-joists, OSB and LVLs. I was installing energy star appliances, while watching concrete counter tops be molded on the cabinets we installed. We were taught to waste nothing and use everything. After being in the business for a while I began to take a bigger interest in being a builder and started to research building techniques. I learned that the only way I had been taught to build was green building. So green topics just come naturally to me and it's how I do any project that I'm a part of today.
So, as an inspector I can inspect green built homes and find any improper installations or failures that may arise with green homes just as any other home.
