Port Perry - The Heart Of Scugog - A Year Round Stay-Cation Destination

Port Perry is the primary urban centre and heart of Scugog Township.  Scugog's Municipal offices are located in Port Perry as is Lakeridge Health's 24 bed Hospital, complete with helicopter pad. Close by are The Nonquon Wildlife Preserve, access to the Oak Ridges Moraine Trails and the  Great Blue Heron Casino. Port Perry serves as a hub for many small communities in the Scugog area, such as Greenbank, Raglan, Ceasarea, Blackstock, Nestleton, and a few others

Port Perry is a four season destination that attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Situated on the shore of Lake Scugog Port Perry offers access to the Trent Severn Waterway and Canal system.  Not limited to just summer boaters and fishing in the winter the lake is dotted with Ice huts and skidoos. While fishing, boating or skidooing and ice fishing is not for everyone there is always the numerous Golf courses in the area and of course for those who like to shop there are some wonderful clothing stores, bookstores, antique shops and galleries in the picturesque Victorian-era downtown. There are a number of festivals and events throughout the year that include the Mississauga First Nation PowWow, the Highlands of Durham Games, the Dragon Boat Races, rowing regattas and Street Fest. The annual fair on Labour Day weekend, has been running for over 100 years. On the cultural side there is an active Arts Council and Performing Arts Centre

After The Lights Go Out

Silvia - From Wikipedia According to a Connecticut travel blog, the word "staycation" may have been originally coined by Canadian comedian Brent Butt.

A staycation (or stay-cation, or stacation,or staykation) is a neologism for a period of time in which an individual or family stays at home and relaxes at home or takes day trips from their home to area attractions. Staycations have achieved high popularity in the financial crisis of 2007-2009 in which unemployment levels and gas prices are high. The term was added to the 2009 version of the Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.

Common activities of a staycation include use of the backyard pool, visits to local parks and museums, and attendance at local festivals. Some staycationers also like to follow a set of rules, such as setting a start and end date, planning ahead, and avoiding routine, with the goal of creating the feel of a traditional vacation.
