Three nights ago when I should have been spending quality time with my family, I was on Active Rain and stumbled upon Brad's post, "How to Create Content for Customers and Search Engines". I also saw that Bob Stewart posted a post/challenge where we could all earn 1000 points per day for seven days if we followed Brad's instructions and wrote hyper-local posts for customers and search engines.
Cool! I am very competitive and would love to get all those extra points. Plus, I really needed to write a bunch of blog posts. So yesterday I wrote my first post about Short Sales in Escondido. It was okay. Not my best work. I spent so much time attempting to follow the instructions that I felt that following the rules detracted a bit from the quality of my content.
Bob was kind. He awarded me my bonus points (awesome!) and suggested that I make my post even more "hyper-local". The constructive criticism felt almost as good as getting the points. Someone was reading, and paying attention, and helping me to improve. I loved it!
So, today I tried again. Just like "The Little Engine that Could", I got in the mindset. "I think I can. I think I can." I drafted my second hyper-local post: Short Sales in San Elijo Hills: What Should Sellers Do?
I have not heard back from Bob yet, but I do think I did a better job at making the content more hyper-local-more specific to San Elijo Hills, a smaller community in San Diego County.
Now . . . here is the BEST part: to test Brad and see if he was really right on in what he said, I just googled short sales + San Elijo and my post was number 2 on page 1! I then googled short sales + Escondido and even there (in my first stinky attempt), I still hit in the top 5! It works! Horray!
Thank you very much to my teachers, Bob and Brad. I learned a lot from the exercise and plan to continue throughout this week's challenge and beyond!
