Black as a ...........................Pansy?

very dark pansyI've always had a special spot in my heart for pansies.  They have such a soft pleasant scent.  My Dad said his Mom always thought the flowers resembled people's faces.  He said she always had them in her garden.  He always had them in his garden, too, so it seem right I should have them in mine.  This year, I planted them from seed rather than buying them in the usual pony packs.  I was expecting to get some different colors -- the apricot one has always been a favorite of mine.  Imagine though, when I discovered the first one to bloom appeared to be black!  The nice thing about living in North San Diego County is that you can grow almost anything well (okay, except tulips and blue spruce -- no success with those yet!)

Thanks!  Smaller than a bread box, bigger than your thumbprint.
