Texting and driving no longer allowed in Arkansas!

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty Professionals, Inc.

Starting this Saturday, August 1, 2009 it will be against the law to be texting and driving at the same time in the state of Arkansas.  You will need to pull over if you wish to respond to someones text message, and we should.  There have been test done that state texting and driving is as bad as drinking and driving.

There is additional consideration when it comes to cell phones and driving.  If you are under the age of 18, you CAN NOT use a cell phone at all while driving, period.  If you are between the ages of 18-21 you can use a cell phone but it must be by a hands free device only.

My name is Larry DeGroat and I am a Realtor at Realty Professionals, Inc. in Searcy, Arkansas 72143 and I sell new homes, existing homes, commercial property, farms and land as well as manage and own rental properties. Larry, I like the new law and hope California and the rest of the nation adopts it. It's unfortunate people are not smart enough to know not to text and drive without having to regulate it.

I'm guilty of Texting While Driving, although very minimally.  But, I do more Reading My Blackberry Email While Driving, though.  Neither is safe, and I need to curtail that activity.  Thanks for the post!

Kathleen.....we do have that law. Yikes...you aren't texting and driving are you? :) Seriously, it wasn't included in the first driving law but went into effect maybe this last January? or last July...can't remember.

We know that agents would never text message while driving, don't we? Drive safely!

North Carolina passed a similar law recently. I'm all for it. I do sometimes talk on the phone, with a handsfree headset, but no texting or anything while driving - I used to occasionally, but ended up in a really bad wreck due to the person behind me doing it, so I quit.

All they have to do is be in one of those vehicles with such dark windows that no one can see through.  Then they can be seat-beltless, texting, talking, drinking and be invisible.  I think they should be cracking down on those vehicles.
