Hiking the Ridge Trail in Ellensburg Washington is a favorite activity for outdoor enthusiasts, hikers and those just looking for some exhilarating exercise. Close to Ellensburg, the Ridge Trail is just a short 6 miles from downtown Ellensburg.
Many local folks hike the Ridge Trail for condition training. It is a pretty good hike to the top, so first time hikers may wish to stop part way. Go at your own pace. Generally there will be others sharing the Ridge Trail with you. Everyone is very friendly and out to have a good time. Bring some water and a snack if you like and don't forget your camera to photograph the stunning views. There is an abundance of wildlife in the area including elk, deer and all types of birds. If you bring your pet please be respectful of others.
At the top of the Ridge Trail you will find a memorial and also a book where you can write your thoughts. You will want to spend some time reflecting and drinking in the scenic views of Ellensburg, Mt Stuart and the beautiful Kittitas Valley. Allow 11/2 to 2 hours depending on your physical condition.
The Ellensburg area offers many outdoor activities such as camping, hunting, fishing, boating, skiing, rock climbing and much more. The Kittitas Valley, where Ellensburg is located, is a rugged and beautiful region with varying terrain. You will find desert prairie landscape to densely treed alpine highland, there is truly something for everyone.
Directions: From Canyon Rd in Ellensburg, travel west on Umptanum Rd (at Subway), cross the Yakima River and then turn right on Manastash Rd (Ma-nas-tash), follow Manastash Rd to Cove Rd approximately 5 miles, turn left on Cove Rd a short distance to the parking area. You won't have any trouble finding the trail head from the parking area. The designated parking area for the Ridge Trail head provides ample parking for hikers.
