Have You Had Your 15 Minutes Of Fame Yet?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

World WatchYou might say in the real estate field your fifteen minutes of fame the clock starts ticking with that first face to face introduction with the client. First impressions, good or bad, are especially hard to change. Did you show up with your hair all wind blown? Scruffy clothes from a long day? Makeup messed up for the ladies? Frazzled in the mind from the interactions with other people? The clock is ticking. What do those others think of you? Are you the superstar they had hoped to meet from reading your blog and Twittering you? But in real life,

Have You Had Your 15 Minutes Of Fame Yet?

I am curious across the sampling of readers of this post how commonplace or not it is with any of us? The claim is sometime we will get it. I think I am still waiting for mine. I have crossed paths with celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg. Not that she is my buddy or anything but I have met her. Well she's still famous, I just met the famous.

Think of all the one hit wonders along the way in the past or what could be currently.

Susan Boyle

Let's see there is AOL Chat rooms, McMansions, Twitter, landing on the moon the first time, eight gold medals by Michael Phelps, a winning Super Bowl touchdown, Sarah Palin being a Vice Presidential candidate, and of course Joe the Plumber.

I often think this fame thing is one of watch what you wish for. Susan Boyle in the UK who rocketed up the ranks with that talent contest and came in second, well it put her in a funk afterward.

So what say you? Are you famous now? Been famous? Still waiting for the proverbial ship of yours to come in??

Gary,

Great message. It's amazing when you are in the public eye and establish a dominance in your market place you never know when people know you and you don't remember them! Making a good first impression is always important. It's like you are constantly on a job interview!

Gary, many famous people fly under the radar and like it that way, I doubt Warren Buffet would have been a house hold name if it weren't for the Forbes list. Movie Stars and athletes receive way too many accolades for my taste...or it could be jealousy.

Fame is not my thing. I'm perfectly happy staying out of the spotlight. I do what I can to make a great impression and like to treat my clients and friends as if they are celebrities.

I do not wish for fame but only to be successful and to show my children that you can do anything...even if it's changing careers at mid-life!

Don't want fame; it results in too big a loss of freedom--wouldn't mind the money, though : )

Gary, It's actually a good question.  I want to have left a mark, somewhere, for my work.  I have had tiny "famous" moments but there's nothing tangible....with the exception of all my wonderful clients.  Maybe that leaves me with a lot more then 15 seconds.....

Gary - When I was young, living in Longview, Washington, I knew that everyone in the world knew me.  I was a celebrity.  I lived not that far from Hollywood. We had the Everly Brothers, Elvis, Bobby Darin visiting the local radio station to perform their songs,(live, I thought, and the fact that they never changed anything was amazing to me.)  But, then, I grew up.

I have been on stage with Arlo Guthrie, (we share the same birthday), I've spoken with Truman Capote and missed Hunter Thompson by two minutes...probably for the best.  I've spoken on the phone with Katharine Hepburn (one of the greatest joys of my life), and some lesser known, but neverless, smart writers.

It has been an amazing journey...and one I hope to continue.  Not so much to meet celebrities or be one, just to continue to have the greatest experiences of my life...over and over again.

No not famous yet, I'm the kind that hangs out in the back of the room cracking jokes. I feel sorry for Susan, she definitely did not know what she was getting into, all she wanted to do was sing.  Sarah Palin also, she was asked to run for one of the highest offices in the land and everyone picks on her children.  But ... I think that what you might mean is that when you show up for an appointment are you totally frazzled and ditzy?  Your clients should be your only focus at the time.  Prepare for your appointments because as soon as you ring the doorbell - 'your on'.

I am anonymouse with big ears...I want people to see & remember the magic & extraordinary in the most common & ordinary... Also, having lived & worked around Hollyweird (as it is sometimes called) for years, I've learned that, the greater geographical distance you are from the stars, the more dazzled you are... Maybe my own 15 minutes happened decades ago when I was a contestant on The Gong Show (hahaha!)... I knew I'd never, ever, want to be in front of a curtain again. What I love the most is having you as my big fan club, Gary!  That is the best, just like you!

Gary:  I don't think I have had my fifteen minutes yet.  Though maybe I have.  Working for a nationally syndicated radio show  may have been it for me.  I hope not.

Gary,

What a question... I think it is  just around the corner... in the future. And getting less younger (I am trying to be PC), it is less of an urge

Hey, I once met Wolfman Jack, if that counts. But I pretty much live in a vacuum. Fame isn't for me. But I'll take the money, LOL. Sometimes my clients treat me like a celebrity because they found me online. But it's just a picture, a few words, nothing I consider extraordinary.

I have met many famous people: BB King, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, Willie Nelson,Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ann Richards to name a few. I also had a kids TV show in the 1990's called For Kids Only in Austin. I am not sure if my 15 is used up though?!? I kind of hope not, its fun!

Gary - I was just walking the streets of Manhattan this weekend thinking about all the famous people who CAN'T. I realized at that moment the price people must pay for fame and settled into being my unfamous self - just a happy pedestrian going about her own business everywhere she roams. Some famous people would be envious of that. I bet they would even wish they couldwalk in my shoes as much as I might like to live in their homes!
